Mes premiers jaseurs boréals.
Il est tard dans la saison, j'ai bien cru que je n'en observerais pas cette année.
Being late in the season, I finally got to see a group of 27 individuals.
Crystals of hoar frost envelop the spruces and other vegetation.

Why not treat yourself a bit of green in the middle of the city? You could even grow your own vegetables. If you've got like € 30 million lying around doing nothing, why not throw 'em out now? At least this was the rumored price when the property was sold to the Emirate of Qatar in 2016, since when it hasn't been used for anything.

It's hard to get a decent shot of these little boreal chickadees, they are constantly moving...
Poecile hudsonicus
Still trying to get a shot of a chickadee perching on the tine of this caribou antler, which 'serves' (pun intended) to hang suet for the woodpeckers, as well as a perch for birds waiting for a chance at the platform feeder.
Niqui gets a little bored when I'm taking photos and finds various ways of amusing herself .. usually by getting in my shots!!
Another shot of the Madawaska River in Algonquin Park just before the blue hour. All Spruce, Pine, and Fir in this shot.

A multi exposure walk-around (Pep Ventosa) of a pine-tree in the white-moss covered boreal forest of eastern Norway results in an impressionistic vision of both chaos and simplicity.
Same bird, same branch, different pose from this beautiful Boreal Chickadee! St. Louis County, MN 01/11/22
Finally!
The Boreal Owl has been a "grail" bird for many years.
This Owl was captured, banded and released by licensed Owl bander Richard Chamberland. I got this shot after the release when it captured an offered mouse.
It is unusual to see a Boreal Owl in daylight in winter. It usually means they are starving. This individual was captured at a bird feeder. this morning. After the capture, it got three good meals.
Thanks to Richard for this great opportunity and thanks again to him and other banders here who help keep these wonderful birds alive by taking them in to their homes, feeding them and keeping them strong so they can get back out there and live their natural lives.
Leduc County, Alberta.
Little Boreal Chickadee is proud of himself for swiping some bread crust from a picnic table. Shot near Wiseman, Alaska

It was a cold day, I didn't feel like climbing out of the truck. I didn't feel like rolling down the window. I actually wanted to get home. I shot through the windshield, hoping to catch that last afternoon subarctic light. I think the windshield gives it a kind of tilt-shift effect.
Well I went to pick up GP at work...so while I was waiting for him to come out I got bored....so...always carry a camera with you and wham....take it out and start shooting and playing ....this is the result :-) No, you don't need to get your eyes checked it's blurry on purpose.
(more to come!)
Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek. I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments however, awards and invites aren't necessary.

It was a snowy day here, but very pleasant in the woods. There was no wind and the temperature was mild.
North Whitemud Trail, Edmonton, Alberta.
The boreal chickadee is less common than the black cap here in Fairbanks but still pretty numerous in the forest.
Tidal Bore Rafting
Feel the rush of riding waves that can be up to 4 metres (13 feet) high in a Zodiac boat as the power of the world’s highest tides in the Bay of Fundy turn the Shubenacadie River into a water roller coaster only found in Nova Scotia.
I was bored and took this photo ...
We were waiting at the tram stop. As usual we had to wait about 10 minutes for the next tram to come. So what to do .... just looking around .... :)

On Dec 27th and 28th I went to Votier's Flats in search of the American Dipper that had been reported. One of my friends had some very nice photos of it. Not me! I could not locate it. I really enjoyed getting out while the weather was still bearable. It is way too cold now!
Thanks for your visits and comments! They are greatly appreciated
Boreal Chickadee, Algonquin Provincial Park, Feb 23, 2017
The rain stopped and the fog lessened enough for me to get this shot of a boreal chickadee. A lifer for both Anne and me.
Poecile hudsonicus
The oldest recorded Boreal Chickadee was at least 5 years, 4 months, when it was recaptured and rereleased during banding operations in Nova Scotia.
