When Jasper is bored, he'll often lay like this, staring at us, front paws off to one side. Words? We don't need no stinking words! The message is clear.

Sorry for the title.. thanks for looking.

Interesting .... During late summer and early fall, when there is an abundance of caterpillars and seeds, they store food for winter among needles or under the bark of branches at a height that will be above the winter snow cover.

When I read one description of f this bird, it said it had “ a brown cap and cinnamon colored feathers on it’s side.” What a delightful little guy he is. But he is not bold enough to eat from your hand like the Black Capped Chickadees do.

The boreal chickadees at Sax Zim Bog (Minnesota) don't show up at regular bird-feeders, but they do like peanut butter.

Note: One of the area volunteers told me they don't use peanut-butter to attract birds when it's warm out -- because it can (theoretically) get stuck in their feathers. But, it isn't a problem when it's cold outside. At the time of this picture, it was about -15f outside.

Continuing to add photos from a flash drive.

I visited the Weaselhead Park in hopes of finding at least one of two special owls that had been reported in the park. Lots of walking on icy paths. I was thrilled to see this Boreal Owl as I was on my way back to the parking lot! I was never close to it and left after I got my photos.

Thanks for your visits and comments. They are all greatly appreciated!

Happy holidays to you all

Poecile hudsonicus gleaning seeds from spruce cones. Turnagain Arm Trail, Anchorage, Alaska

The Boreal Chickadee is recognized by its brown cap. This species is found year-round in dense evergreen forests of North America, mostly in Canada.

sitting with David as he watches the Giants game.... I hate sports as these grown men get paid millions for playing a game...

spend that money on people who have REAL jobs...

Boreal owl, Southern Ontario, Mar 4, 2022.

A life bird, woohooo! Very unusual in our area.

Made a day trip to the Niagara area to see this bird. It was our first trip since covid started.

Tucked in tight to a tree trunk.

Thanks to Rob for pointing it out, we had checked all the spruce trees in the area and had missed it.

Now we just need the Elf owl.

Aegolius funereus

As with most other raptors, the female Boreal Owl is much larger than the male. In fact, they show the most extreme sexual dimorphism of any American owl, with the female sometimes 2 times heavier than the male.

It's a languid evening, an evening where nothing happens

No wind, no rain, no mist, nothing, absolutely nothing

The sweltering evaporation of the lake hangs around you like a clammy warm blanket, making you sweat annoyingly and the droplets slowly slide down your forehead

There is no wind and bored some sailing yachts in the distance lie dobbing in the water, because without wind no progress

Two ducks scurry around hoping to find some more food and a cormorant has been sitting on a pole to dry its wings for hours

But the poor stumper does not realise this is futile, as it is languid, hot and clammy........

It is languid, hot, clammy, nasting, sweltering and I hope I can catch some sleep soon........

This photo opportunity presented itself, which I could not ignore. The flat bottomed boat sedately appeared, hardly moving and seemed to be becalmed on the still waters. The faces of the passengers were a sight to behold, they seemed to be blank, bored and void of expression and showing no interest in their colourful surrounding.

It is worth enlarging to see passengers faces.

Thank You for the views, faves and comments, very much appreciated .

At least his face was in focus. To many branches surrounding him. Spruce Grove Alberta.

Northern Minnesota. We were fortunate to come upon two of these in the same area, both hunting actively in the early/mid afternoon.
