I had heard that this tunnel was home to a giant slug, so big that it had blocked the other half of it. I was excited to see whether these rumours were true. Many people have gone here and failed, and with stories of a difficult climb down rock and a flooded, swamp like cutting; this would be a lot of work. Unceremoniously, I slid down and landed on my bottom of the cutting. We were here. The cutting was reasonably dryish, and very over grown. It looked like the sort of place a pterodactyl might fly past at any moment.
Lying on the line once ran by the Hull, Barnsley and West Riding Junction Railway and Dock Company, opened in 1885, the tunnel was 684 yards long, an important part of the network that was used to transport coal. This section of line closed in 1967.
Like all of these fabulous Victorian tunnels in Yorkshire, the brickwork was in pretty decent nick considering it hasn't been maintained for nearly half a century.
There is only half a tunnel left now, 310 yards of dark, dead space where the sound of dripping water echoes off the bricks.
Water poured from the only air shaft in the Brierley tunnel. Beyond is 300 yards of concrete and rubble to support the road and roundabout of the new bypass above. The eastern portal finally disappeared in the mid 1990's.

Nothing overly eventful going on here today. R had the day off and we ran tons of errands, made a gazillion phone calls, and catered to our children's needs and wants. So, like I said, boring. LOL I did make some progress on a couple of things that I wanted to work on though, which was fantastic! ;)
I was at the local farmer's market in Murffresboro,TN when I saw this girl sitting on a case of tomatoes waiting for her mother to finish talking to a friend, I was only able to get two quick shots before she noticed me taking her pictiure. Poor thing looks almost bored to tears.
Was bored the other day and took this shot. Did a little processing and came up with this. I had planned to just make a b&w silhouette, but the colors looked so good (to me) that I kept them and decided to post this to see what you think about it.

me and audrey go to hearth's wine bar, which is closed on sundays fyi. d'oh. then to hearth for light dinner and more alcohol.
home by 9:30, already hungover. bruce came home at like 1:30, then got up at 4:30 to take a car to jfk. oye.
