Two Chicks and a Jay - a bathtub set

It is a good day to stay home. We are having a big dump of snow here with a wind chill of -26. I set up my camera by my trusty bathroom blind and checked throughout the day to see who was arriving for sunflower seeds and peanuts. I am really fortunate to have a pair of Boreal Chickadees as regular visitors to my yard. They are not common backyard birds. These have been with me since October.

Also included is a shot of a BC Chickadee and one of the regular Blue Jays. I missed shots of a Downy Woodpecker, RB Nuthatch, a Dark-eyed Junco, and who knows what else while I was doing my household chores.

This photo gets me in the mood for Halloween. What a nice treat to find this elusive, Boreal Owl juvenile. I was pleased with this fun encounter of this inquisitive owlet and used no flash or tripod. It turned out okay as a documentation photo. I was thrilled to SEE it ,as it was the last remaining of the 15 species of owls that I could possibly see in WA. A very productive and successful 2016 owl year for me. I worked hard but karma usually rewarded me.

It felt like a James Bond moment when the train chased me out of the tunnel

So... I have been fascinated by the latent potential for a 10-100x improvement in neglected and formerly unattractive industrial businesses that have stagnated from the lack of a competitive new entrant for decades. Think aerospace and automotive as recent examples. It is a common pattern I’ll be looking for more of in the Future.

"In the United States, there is virtually no investment in tunneling Research and Development (and in many other forms of construction). Thus, the construction industry is one of the only sectors in our economy that has not improved its productivity in the last 50 years.

Currently, tunnels are really expensive to dig, with some projects costing as much as $1 billion per mile.

To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company.

Ways to increase Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) speed:

• Increase TBM power. The machine’s power output can be tripled (while coupled with the appropriate upgrades in cooling systems).

• Continuously tunnel. When building a tunnel, current soft-soil machines tunnel for 50% of the time and erect tunnel support structures the other 50%. This is inefficient. Existing technology can be modified to support continuous tunneling activity.

• Automate the TBM. While smaller diameter tunneling machines are automated, larger ones currently require multiple human operators. By automating the larger TBMs, both safety and efficiency are increased.

• Go electric. Current tunnel operations often include diesel locomotives. These can be replaced by electric vehicles." — Boring FAQ

Meet Cleo our son and daughter-in-laws Dogo Argentino. Our son came to help GP with putting in some sono tubes for our renovation (complete redo) of our deck. The deck was in rough shape when we bought Chez Plevna and it has gotten worse over time so this year out big project is the deck redo. Poor Cleo was being eaten to bits from mosquitos and deer flies so our son asked if she could come in and sit with me. She immediately found a comfy chair and settled in.

A rather pathetic photo, but I so rarely get photos of a Boreal Chickadee. These little guys tend to hang out with the Black-capped Chickadees and are just as fast and constantly on the move.

It was a cold morning when I met friends for a three hour walk at Griffith Woods on 26 November 2015. Temperature was -10 to -4°C. Eventually, the warmth of the sun could just be felt, which always makes such a welcome difference.

Not a huge variety of birds - we saw so many Bohemian Waxwings (a total of 600+) flying overhead and sometimes landing near the tops of very tall Spruce trees. Also saw this little Boreal Chickadee, near the top of a tall Spruce tree.

Got out most of the day birding and shooting. Had a good day even in suck light.

French Quartier, New Orleans, LA

I have nothing to do

And no one seems to care

I've been bored all my life

All I can do is sit and stare

I have a 100 boring toys

Two hundred books I've never read

Mom says to use my imagination

But all I have is one super bored head

Dad says I am lucky

To have my summer to play

But there's nothing to do

Oh this very lame Friday

But then a small spark

Came out on the stage

It focused my eyes

To this very page

"Silly little girl

Do you see what you've done?

With your complaining and whining

Some poetry you have spun!"

He was right that little spark

I did this it's true

So I guess with pen and paper

There is always something to do

Chinatown, Honolulu, Hi.

Waiting on the ferry from Hull back to Holland. When you're bored as a two year old doing that, you have your own ways to kill time.

(Wachten in de vertrekhal van de Ferry van Engeland terug naar Nederland. Wat doe je dan als tweejarige om de verveling de baas te worden?)

Bored at work so I decided to play around with the in camera double exposure mode!

I took this photograph in Rethymno. This girl is in a barber shop. She was waiting for her friend that was talking to the barber about something. I saw her looking depressed and bored and I thought to myself I have to capture that expression. I have to take a photo of that girl, sitting in that old barber shop with the look of boredom written all over her. So I did. Snap!

Yes, I know - it's 3 days in a row with Rumblemumbles.

We still have all the board games from when she was young, and there are more. We couldn't be bothered bringing them all out.

Oh, the number of hours I spent playing these. One of her personal favourites not on show here was "Go To The Head Of The Class". It bored me to tears.
