Mini-Morat-Fribourg / Mini-Murtenlauf 2018

Taken en route from Covent Garden the Liverpool St Station.

This photo gets me in the mood for Halloween. What a nice treat to find this elusive, Boreal Owl juvenile. I was pleased with this fun encounter of this inquisitive owlet and used no flash or tripod. It turned out okay as a documentation photo. I was thrilled to SEE it ,as it was the last remaining of the 15 species of owls that I could possibly see in WA. A very productive and successful 2016 owl year for me. I worked hard but karma usually rewarded me.

Took with Fujifilm X100F.

It felt like a James Bond moment when the train chased me out of the tunnel

So... I have been fascinated by the latent potential for a 10-100x improvement in neglected and formerly unattractive industrial businesses that have stagnated from the lack of a competitive new entrant for decades. Think aerospace and automotive as recent examples. It is a common pattern I’ll be looking for more of in the Future.

"In the United States, there is virtually no investment in tunneling Research and Development (and in many other forms of construction). Thus, the construction industry is one of the only sectors in our economy that has not improved its productivity in the last 50 years.

Currently, tunnels are really expensive to dig, with some projects costing as much as $1 billion per mile.

To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company.

Ways to increase Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) speed:

• Increase TBM power. The machine’s power output can be tripled (while coupled with the appropriate upgrades in cooling systems).

• Continuously tunnel. When building a tunnel, current soft-soil machines tunnel for 50% of the time and erect tunnel support structures the other 50%. This is inefficient. Existing technology can be modified to support continuous tunneling activity.

• Automate the TBM. While smaller diameter tunneling machines are automated, larger ones currently require multiple human operators. By automating the larger TBMs, both safety and efficiency are increased.

• Go electric. Current tunnel operations often include diesel locomotives. These can be replaced by electric vehicles." — Boring FAQ

Being stuck at home when you are sick is like being by yourself on a seesaw (teeter-totter for you yankees)

the boys suddenly realised it is sunday and the bank is shut, no decision until tomorrow, they are so bored.

They look pretty bored, don't they?

Captured at the flea market at the "Straße des 17. Juni".

A denizen of northern boreal forests, this little chickadee flocks with Mountain Chickadees for company. This bird tried to land on my camera lens! They don't see many people, and are quite tame. I just need 2 more chickadees to complete my collection - Carolina and Mexican :)

Continuing to add photos from a flash drive.

I visited the Weaselhead Park in hopes of finding at least one of two special owls that had been reported in the park. Lots of walking on icy paths. I was thrilled to see this Boreal Owl as I was on my way back to the parking lot! I was never close to it and left after I got my photos.

Thanks for your visits and comments. They are all greatly appreciated!

With better light today, I got another shot of the nesting boreal chickadees at Tanana Lakes here in Fairbanks.

They must be planning on a large brood as they've hauled a lot of sawdust out of that hole in the 3 days i've been aware of them.

Waiting on the ferry from Hull back to Holland. When you're bored as a two year old doing that, you have your own ways to kill time.

(Wachten in de vertrekhal van de Ferry van Engeland terug naar Nederland. Wat doe je dan als tweejarige om de verveling de baas te worden?)

A small owl of boreal and montane forests, the Boreal Owl is found throughout Alaska and Canada, and across northern Eurasia, as well. It is found in the lower 48 states only in the mountains of the West, in extreme northern Minnesota, and as an occasional winter visitor to the northern states.

I took this photograph in Rethymno. This girl is in a barber shop. She was waiting for her friend that was talking to the barber about something. I saw her looking depressed and bored and I thought to myself I have to capture that expression. I have to take a photo of that girl, sitting in that old barber shop with the look of boredom written all over her. So I did. Snap!

One of my friends just said "World Peace is boring." I bet it's not as boring as this.
