This Hosta border is one of many enchanting garden displays at Kew Gardens in the Beaches neighbourhood of Toronto, Canada.
When we came down to breakfast this morning, our lounge was nice and warm, as the remnants of yesterday's fire were still glowing red in the wood-burner. I got some more wood from our log store (which started life as an outside toilet) and also a bucket of smokeless fuel, and within a few minutes the fire was blazing away and our Yorkie had taken up position in front of it. Our old farm cottage in rural Northamptonshire dates from 1668, and has thick stone walls and relatively small windows. It's the ideal place for the cold winter months. In March, we'll be returning to our holiday home up near the Cumbria border. Hopefully, by then the snow will have disappeared.

Keepsake Mill
Over the borders, a sin without pardon,
Breaking the branches and crawling below,
Out through the breach in the wall of the garden,
Down by the banks of the river we go.
Here is a mill with the humming of thunder,
Here is the weir with the wonder of foam,
Here is the sluice with the race running under--
Marvellous places, though handy to home!
Sounds of the village grow stiller and stiller,
Stiller the note of the birds on the hill;
Dusty and dim are the eyes of the miller,
Deaf are his ears with the moil of the mill.
Years may go by, and the wheel in the river
Wheel as it wheels for us, children, to-day,
Wheel and keep roaring and foaming for ever
Long after all of the boys are away.
Home for the Indies and home from the ocean,
Heroes and soldiers we all will come home;
Still we shall find the old mill wheel in motion,
Turning and churning that river to foam.
You with the bean that I gave when we quarrelled,
I with your marble of Saturday last,
Honoured and old and all gaily apparelled,
Here we shall meet and remember the past.

Yesterday this little black pearl joined my family. She is called Zireael. She is my another Border Collie, as they get addictive! Zira is my new muse and inspiration ♥ Ciri and Zira are related, sharing same Father and Grandfather - Sorin.
The Norway-Sweden border and the old Svinesund bridge, on a foggy November day, 18th November 2015.
Norway on the left (north) side of the fjord, Sweden on the right.
Before this bridge opened (15th June 1948) this fjord (with pedestrian/car ferry) was the main connection between central Norway and western Sweden. Also the Scandinavian passport union did not come into effect before 1st July 1954, so i guess there must have been a lot of paperwork in those days. The large white building is the old Norwegian ferry terminal.
Elk really likes cold paws, after running round on the beach she'll purposely after a while head for the sea, not to swim but to wet her paws!

I finally put my Lensbaby on the camera and went for a short walk without the dogs - essential when I have to use manual focus.
This hotel was very popular before decay dictates the beat of time. In older days it was something between difficult and impossible to get an overnight stay there. Now the demolition excavator is the only thing the place is waiting for.
Have a good start into the new week and thanks for spending your time.

The trail is like a border between ancient worlds. The earth behind this trail was formed 40 million years ago, in warm world of near-tropical, jungle-like forests.
The colorful red and golds hills represent a world with seasonality, 33 million years ago. Then, deciduous forests covered the land.
The distant ridgelines are topped with layers of flood basalts. These lava layers represent another world in time, 16 million years ago when enormous lava flods covered thousands of square miles of savanna-like ecosystems.
