Hello my amazing Flickr friends !

Today is a green day at Color my World Daily and we all need vitamins. So why not an orange, egg and lemon mix to boost our vitamins intake. And since I have a very busy day ahead (with some major laundry folding, vacuuming and a 10km run) I will need the extra energy and motivation for sure!!

Happy green day !! See you later my friends !!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !!

Promoters of Echinacea believe it boosts the immune system. Seeing these first thing on a dewy morning certainly boosted my mood even without ingesting any of it.

A nice, still day to capture colour and reflections, all boosted in glorious HDR! HSS everyone.

I spotted this Red-Tailed hawk on a tree branch, concentrated on its prey moving in the grass at the edge of an irrigation canal. Hawks usually fly away when they spot someone from far away. This time the prey seemed to have mesmerized the hawk. That gave me time to close in and hide behind the next tree’s trunk when the hawk decided to strike, disapearing in the tall and dense grass. I layed down low and waited for movement. He finally showed up with whatever was left of a vole or mole.

A part of a shop window covered with semi transparent, adhesive, white plastic before painting the facade. I just can't explain the yellow, green and blue shapes. The broad Depth of Field makes it very dreamy.

I have boosted Vibrance and Saturation here increasing the depth and colour of the reflection as Ben Nevis reflects so well on this beautiful calm water.

1937 CORD 812 Supercharged Sportsman Coupe

The new Cord 810’s front-wheel drive was a decided improvement over previous systems, replacing double universal joints with constant-velocity units that enabled independent transverse springing, an industry first. So too were the Lycoming 288 CI V-8 engine and Bendix preselector gearbox. Fitted with a 2-barrel carburetor, aluminum heads, intake and pistons, and rated at 125 HP in naturally aspirated form, the Lycoming V-8’s output leapt to 170 HP with supercharging.

With a new “812” designation, the 1937 Cord offered a new optional Schwitzer-Cummins centrifugal supercharger giving up to 6 PSI boost and increasing peak output to upwards of 190 HP and 272 lb-ft of torque, figures that contributed to a series of Bonneville records set by racer Ab Jenkins in 1937, including a 24-hour average speed of 101.72 MPH that stood for 16 years.

Grizzly Bear sow needed a little boost to she what was causing all the commotion.

Looking good on both ends back on May 4, 1980 as the daily eastbound Toledo Peroria & Western freight headed by their lone GP30 gets an old fashioned boost out of Peoria by Nickle Plate 765 which had arrived the day before and would pull excursions the following weekend.

I have not been out with the camera for a long time, other than to take holiday snaps. So, when we had a series of wonderous mist morning sunrises that I only admired from my bedroom window I endeavoured to set the alarm early and find a good spot.

I did my research and located the exact spot where the sun would rise from behind the church and project its long shadows on the screen of rising mist clinging on surface of the water. Camera battery charged, lenses cleaned, filters polished… I was all set off, with my mind forming the image I was hoping to get.

The reality was slightly different. While walking to the river’s edge I managed to scrape my leg on a hidden steel post, then I dropped half of my optics kit in long wet grass, and finally I stood for an hour waiting for the magic to happen. But the mist turned to fog and the sun never broke through. And then I was later for work.

In post-production I have tried to save as much as I could and tried to twist the photos away from flat grey mundaneness into something more pleasing on the eye.

Equipment: Nikon D7000, Nikkor 10-24mm @ 10mm. ISO 100, F16, 7-stop Hitech Firecrest ND filter. 3 exposure bracketed snaps (30se to 10 sec). Manfrotto tripod.

Swans: same equipment but without the filter and shorter exposure

Post-production: HDR of the 3 base images, swans superimposed on top. Warning filter effect using colour balance layer (boost reds in mid- and highlight- tones, boost blues in shadow).

Seemingly random phrases stencilled into the rusty metal facade of the Wave apartment building on Gilles Street in the city.

I put the slice of kiwi on a light board and took the picture directly above. Boosted the brightness and contrast in Photoshop.

Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)

Aperture: f/3.3

Focal Length: 6.3 mm

ISO Speed: 64

The vitamin boost doesn't just apply to grapes and tomatoes. Photography often gives me a positive boost (and sometimes a bit frustation when things don't work out well). So now I'm curious what gives you positve energy?

Thanks for your views, faves and comments, they are welcome and appreciated.

I’m not a hardcore birder, I shoot only when both the opportunity and mood arise simultaneously, both of which does not happen very often.

I remember feeling challenged shooting this bird and as such it was a great experience.

1. Tiny bird, smaller even than the common Kingfisher but way more colourful.

2. This being a Forest Kingfisher, it’s always in the thicket, never in the open. Had to shoot at very low shutter speed hoping to catch it in between twitches just to keep ISO low enough to preserve details. Being as dim as it was, had to also boost up the EV to avoid having to do any shadow recovery.

3. 600mm even on APS-C crop was barely sufficient.

4. Trying to squeeze out as much details as possible. Used normal wireless release via OVF; MUP+EFC; Live-view, none made any consistent and significant difference. This was where I got a little mad at Nikon’s useless implementation of EFC on the D500, even more useless than the auto AF fine-tune feature. What’s the point of putting in features that don’t really work!? EFC in Live-view would have helped but infuriatingly, you can activate EFC in Live-view yet you can’t use EFC in Live-view, get your act together Nikon!

5. Getting the right pose with the beak pointing sideways and preferably upwards for the slightly haughty look plus some catch-light in the eye.

An experience to remember. a most beautiful bird, its red feathers extend down the centre back of its head to the collar in a narrowing ridge looking like its beak with the dark blue patches on each side of this ridge giving it the appearance of having eyes and beak at the back of its head! This is likely a defensive marking. Especially interesting when the Micronesia Kingfisher became extinct in the wild due to introduced brown tree snake sneaking up on it from behind while the bird was totally focused ahead and below as kingfishers normally do.

Shooting very small birds is always challenging as conditions constantly change with the subject constantly on the move while you aim for that perfect pose which can disappear in a twitch.

I toyed with the idea of getting the Sony a99ii with A-mount Tamron 150-600mm G2 after this but gave it up eventually. It’s not feasible to shoot with so many different systems.

Shot on tripod at 1/15s!

Uploaded a much better image (albeit cropped) with my latest post processing workflow.

First of all, what an amazing car! I had so much fun on this shoot! I really, really like this car and I'm hoping to shoot the car again as soon as I get confirmation that it goes to print! The car is definitely well done, and has plenty of plans for improvement in the near future!

The car belongs to Travis, a really cool guy from Team Senbou. He is also a Chef, and that scores big points with chubby photographers!

The car is an Infiniti G35. It started out life as a daily driver for Travis, and was driven on a daily basis for 5 years. Over time, the mod list grew, and just recently, the motor was swapped out for a built motor, and the car has been converted to a 6 speed tranny (it was automatic). The tasteful modifications, coupled with the phenomenal standout wheel and brake theme (360 Forged & Rotoras!), let you know that underneath that classy, refined appearance is a monster of a car just waiting to burn up the pavement!

It wasn't all sun - FGW putting in an effort on Bank Holiday Monday and hiring in ATW 150s to boost seats on trains to the coast. This service is returning north at 11:15 approx in the pouring rain with passenger numbers no doubt down due to the poor weather. 158769 to the rear.

The houses in the back are still under construction, but have opened up a nice vista of the station and backdrop - M Pike had a shot published in Railways Illustrated recently of 37s on a test train. Just about to try and replicate and stepping up a car crash barrier to sit on the stone wall when I spotted a sign declaring something like - ' private land - no climbing on this fence or wall especially for taking photographs of trains' - I wont swear on here, but could return when the builders have left.

4th gear, 100mph, 18psi... I can't stoppppp!

This is NOT a Photoshop effect. The image was actually taken at a very safe pace with 1" shutter speed. I took about 50 pictures and most of them turned out okay, but I really like this one because the pretty red truck I was passing really gives a great sense of motion. The camera was mounted on a tripod in my car, and the shot was taken with a remote in my hand.

A cash boost of £46,000 is on its way to Harwich Town Sailing Club thanks to the 2012 Olympic Games.

The club, based in Angel Gate, has been awarded the money by Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

Changing facilities, the main clubhouse and storage facilities will all be improved with the cash.

The project is one of 350 local community sports groups who have been offered a total of £17.4 million in Olympic legacy funding through the Inspired Facilities Fund.

The news last night was 20311 and 20314 had moved to York Thrall as 37402, 37407 and 37423 headed to Toton for tyre turning.

The RHTT was re-timed off Woodburn Junction an hour earlier than normal as it was due to run three times through Worksop and Retford. In the end by the time the pair had arrived at Woodburn Junction there was evidence of trouble at the mill as they say. The early departure was missed and a VSTP entered the system Wodburn to Worksop, where the train was finally terminated with 20314 shunted into Harry Needles depot switched off.

Another pair of Harry Needle's 20s induldge in a bit of shunting, moving ex ECML mark 4 stock presumably ensuring wheels / brakes etc don't rust up as the errant 20314 is pushed into Harry Needle's workshop lines.

As well as the 6, or 7 20s on site, the 47 was present, used as a generator for the mark 4 stock, an 01, and the two 08s had been boosted this week by the road arrival of 09002 and 08925 from Whitemoor. It's believed 08925 is just visible from the recently improved by tree felling view from Tesco car park.
