For my 3D project I am experimenting with the booking line and clothing for inmates when they are first booked into prison. I find the process of dehumanizing individuals interesting. And also what it might look like if it was switched around and the roles were reversed. It would be to connect how police officers are actually the criminals with how they act when people aren't looking. I will be trying to acquire the same feeling in my own 3D sculpture; essentially recreating the prison booking line to fit into the parameters of my question, "How does racial profiling influence the mechanics of law enforcement brutality?"

The Booking Office at The Renaissance Hotel in St. Pancras is one of those places that I only realised was on my list of 'places I have to eat in, in London' once I'd actually been. I think I realised a few minutes in, staring up at its beautifully ornate high ceilings. Living inside the truly magnificent St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel (which only recently finished nothing less than a decade of renovations) the building was originally conceived by Sir George Gilbert Scott and opened as the Midland Grand in 1873. It really is palatial in both its interior and its exterior. It was originally built as a hotel for well heeled train travellers, and more than a century later, is doing pretty much the same thing. The attachment to St. Pancras Railway Station does give the place a kind of frenetic energy, and a few of the hotel rooms have amazing views over the inside of the station.
Anyhow, as you may have guessed, the Booking Office Bar (which is where we spent our ridiculous evening) is built on the site of the station's former booking office. It seems to have lost nothing of the original room's history and character - just look at it. On a foodie note, good news comes in the form of the bar/restaurant that now lives inside it - as a Marriott operation you're allowed to have some expectations when t comes to the food and these guys certainly deliver (though not, perhaps, at the level of insanity you may find at JW Steakhouse on Park Lane or Gillray's in County Hall. Food is, on the main part, rather British with a few modern European touches - think an all day menu with Fish Finger Sandwiches, Toad in the Hole, Shepardâs Pie, Black Angus Beef Burgers, etc. Keeping with the British theme, they also serve the traditional afternoon tea in the adjacent (and for some reason very fragrant) Hansom Lounge.
We were there partly for The Renaissance's 'punch ritual'. What I forgot to mention is that the other big theme here is the Victorian era (heck, they're halfway there with the decor). One way this plays out is in an array of (often gin based) punches and mixed drinks, many of which they dug up from old Victorian recipe books. Monday night's punch recipe/ritual was based on one served at the infamous Garrick club - I watched our photogenic, Italian barman pour an entire bottle of Sipsmith's London Dry into that thing. A mug (metal mug) of said punch is complimentary, but you've got to get up and try some (which apparently encourages diners to be a little more sociable, kinda the point of serving a punchâ¦like a party!). 2 bottles of wine and some punch later, we were given the goahead to explore the inside of the hotel further - check out the Grand Staircase. It is a very grand staircase. This place is worth a visit. A healthy/unhealthy dose of living history and delicious food/drink, all at the same time...

SÍNTESIS: Programa de voluntariado en una granja orgánica en VANG VIENG.
GRUPO: mínimo 2, máximo 6 personas.
ORÍGENES DEL PROYECTO: El proyecto comenzó en el 1996 de la mano de Mr. T. para introducir técnicas orgánicas de agricultura donde la deforestación y los químicos estaban arruinando el terreno. Su doble misión consiste en predicar con el ejemplo y demostrar que estas técnicas pueden resultar rentables. Su deseo es reinvertir los beneficios de la granja en proyectos que ayuden a la comunidad local.
LA MISIÓN:
La principal misión de OFVV es preservar la diversidad ecológica y proveer a la gente de recursos accesibles y sostenibles para que se ganen la vida. OFVV promociona el uso de materiales naturales y métodos tradicionales para sus cultivos y la crianza de sus animales evitando el uso de elementos químicos y fertilizantes artificiales que resultan dañinos tanto para las personas como para el planeta. Una parte de las ganancias de la granja se emplea en ayudar a la comunidad local con capacitaciones, empleo, apoyo y educación a través de varios proyectos.
EL EQUIPO:
La granja emplea a un equipo fijo de gente local de los alrededores y además acoge voluntarios de paso.
RESPONSABILIDADES DE LOS VOLUNTARIOS:
No se espera ni se requiere que los voluntarios tengan experiencia anterior en actividades del tipo de las que van a realizar durante su voluntariado y en muchos casos el voluntario puede elegir el tipo de actividad en la que prefiere trabajar. Los voluntarios tienen un abanico de oportunidades para interactuar con laosianos y grupos minoritarios como los Hmong y los Kmou y de ayudarles a mejorar sus vidas. Horario de trabajo: de 08:30 a 17:30 con una hora para el almuerzo.
ALOJAMIENTO: Bungalow elevado, con capacidad para dos personas, para disfrutar de la brisa y las vistas. Dispone de porche y está equipado con ventilador y baño privado con ducha.
DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ZONA:
VANG VIENG: 4 horas al norte de VIENTIANE por carretera, VANG VIENG, rodeada de montañas y cuevas, se ha convertido en la cuna de actividades al aire libre en Laos. Está rodeada de montañas de roca caliza, bosques tropicales, ríos y lagunas, aldeas tradicionales y terrenos de cultivo. VIENTIANE: pequeña capital del país que poco tiene que ver con las grandes ciudades de los países vecinos. VIENTIANE está salpicada de mansiones francesas, hermosas calles floridas y puestos de comida callejera. Del Parque Buda al mercado matutino, esta ciudad ofrece rincones maravillosos para observar la vida local y aprender como turista. LUANG PRABANG: Capital espiritual y cultural del país, es una joya por descubrir. Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO desde 1995, en esta ciudad sin semáforos reina, ante todo, la tranquilidad. La ciudad alberga más de 50 templos, algunos de los más bellos de Asia, y una serie de edificios coloniales franceses que nos recuerdan que, en el pasado, este maravilloso lugar, formaba parte de Indochina. Hileras de monjes vestidos con túnicas naranjas despiertan a diario a esta ciudad construida en la confluencia de los ríos Mekong y Nam Khan en una procesión silenciosa. No sólo el centro ofrece rincones dignos de visita, los alrededores ofrecen multitud de excursiones y actividades interesantes.
VACUNAS:
Ninguna es obligatoria para viajar a Laos si bien puedes consultar con la oficina de Sanidad Exterior de tu ciudad para recibir
orientación y precauciones previas al viaje.
