I spent a couple of very happy hours at Borde Hill this afternoon. It's one of my favourite gardens and it's finally open again after the lockdown. A few things are different - social distancing measures, booking online only, no cash anywhere etc - but the garden itself is as beautiful and relaxing as ever.
One thing that hasn't changed is that I don't have a clue what this tree is. :)

Just poked the camera at the glass window, had to avoid some reflections in the glass, you can see these in the right hand side marked with a little blue sky.. The light there was extensive so I had to shield that area with my hand around the G12 lens hood, I will load that later as a comparison, when I get back onto the PC..

Flickr is an ad-supported service, free to the general public, that allows users to upload digital photographs from their own computers and share them online with either private groups or the world at large. In the early 2000s it won a fast-growing contingent of enthusiasts on the strength of its many social-networking features, most significantly the ability for users to discuss photographs online.
The service began as a peripheral feature in an online electronic game being developed by the Canadian software company Ludicorp. Company founders (and spouses) Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake ultimately abandoned the game and debuted Flickr by itself in 2004. Waverley station was the collective name of three separate termini opened in 1846 and 1847, although the name only dates from the 1854 opening of the 'Waverley' route to Carlisle via Galashiels and Hawick.
The three independent stations were taken over by the North British Railway in 1866-68, were demolished and replaced by the current station. The dome seen here from below was added in 1897.
The station was designated as a Listed Building, Category A in 1991.

A graveyard is perhaps not the obvious suggestion for a picnic place, but for many Glaswegians and visitors, the Necropolis is another park.
Behind Glasgow Cathedral, close to the City Centre, this beautiful Victorian garden cemetery is the city’s very own version of Père Lachaise in Paris. You won’t find anyone as famous as Jim Morrison or Oscar Wilde buried here, however. The Necropolis is the resting place of the great and the good of Victorian Glasgow, although there are also many thousands of ordinary Glaswegians buried here in unmarked graves.
Look out for gravestones and monuments designed by famous local architects, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson.
There’s a fantastic view of Glasgow from the summit. It’s marked by a monument to John Knox, leader of the Protestant Reformation in Scotland in the 1500s. He’s not buried here, however, he’s underneath a car park in Edinburgh.
I would strongly suggest booking a tour from The Friends of the Glasgow Necropolis. Check out their website for details. Tours are free (although it would be good to leave a donation which goes towards the upkeep of the Necropolis) and the volunteer tour guides have fantastic stories to tell.
The wharf at Matiu/Somes Island.
Matiu/Somes Island will be closed from 18 February 2024.
The island will be closed for the rebuilding of the wharf. This work is expected to take between 6-8 months, during which time the island will be inaccessible to the public.
This is particularly frustrating because I had booked accommodation on the island from 18th to 20th February, and made the booking just six weeks before this was announced.
The booking was for my Meetup group. We decided to go for a day trip before they close the island.
