We made the mistake of not booking ahead for meals when we were on the Isle of Skye but we found this wonderful old pub called Edinbane Inn and if we booked for 5 or 5:30, we generally got in. We loved this so much we ate there twice and would have eaten there on our last evening but thought we should try somewhere in Portree.
One of the things I loved most was that dogs were allowed into most shops and pubs. Bliss for me, especially since I was missing my dogs so much. There was a gorgeous Labrador sitting quietly with his owners at the table, getting lots of attention and pats from everyone.
Although the pub was about half an hour from our accommodation, we had to pass this beautiful Loch. It was so still this evening and the clouds were as beautiful reflected in the water as the were in the sky.

Then finally, further South we halted at Peterborough for the night. A chance hotel booking saw us at Orton Hall Hotel, a lovely period mansion in its own grounds. Mobile capture.

Matiu/Somes Island will be closed from 18 February 2024.
The island will be closed for the rebuilding of the wharf. This work is expected to take between 6-8 months, during which time the island will be inaccessible to the public.
This is particularly frustrating because I had booked accommodation on the island from 18th to 20th February, and made the booking just six weeks before this was announced.
The booking was for my Meetup group. We decided to go for a day trip before they close the island.

The clock on the former booking office on platform 12/13 at Manchester Victoria tells us that it's 6.30pm as 56092 rumbles through with an mgr coal train for Fiddlers Ferry power station. At one time everything visible here would have been under the overall roof, removed in stages from 1920 to 1940.
The train is taking the route which will take it through the former Exchange station
The change of gradient at the commencement of Miles Platting bank can be seen at the rear of the train.
