It's a good thing the Anthrax already blasted past uphill because I am down on my knees almost on the tracks to shoot this after the train entered the tunnel. Otherwise, I'd be a bug splatter on the front of the Anthrax engine. eDDie wondered why it was late but I never doubt them being late. Though I never noticed it then, they better reseat a lot of the spikes or there will be an occurrence here. Any occurrence would be a good one. There were plenty of warnings about the London Grenfell Tower that was wrapped in petroleum so that it really looked good. It looks like the Anthrax train entered while the curtain was up or there would be a mess. At its speed and so close to the tunnel, there is no way to slow for a closed tunnel curtain. It will exit the west portal after 6.2 miles before the curtain drops and the fans start pumping the diesel smoke from the tunnel. It will be replaced by good air from the Winter Park resort. Now that spot is a real "Winter" Park and not a FL wannabe. The 6.2 mile tunnel replaced the Moffat Road, 23 miles over the pass, with a 4% grade along many stretches, one of the highest adhesion (non-cog) railroads ever constructed in North America. Before the tunnel, the trains had to slow here to manage the 180 degree curve north that set the grade east again and up the hill, seen behind the houses. Any speed could never have allowed trains to stay on the tracks and trestles up and over the Continental Divide. That was a tortuous route.

I originally mentioned to eDDie that Amtrack was late, as usual, and there had been no other train on the block. Late? Boy it really blasted toward the tunnel at speed and some extra. Anthrax was booking so it didn't slip from their time block and get held over on a siding for normal traffic. When I got my tour of the portal operations, a train, running at far lesser speed, had to stop because the engineer noticed that the curtain was currently down. Gravity is used to run the curtain up when released but the air pressure in and outside the tunnel have to closely match or the curtain can't roll. Fortunately I got to see the curtain operation one day. Unfortunately I got to listen to the curtain roll up when inside the portal structure. Whoosh! The tunnel uses atomic blast grade shock absorbers to stop the rolling curtain and I was not prepared with fingers in my ears. The curtain remains open until the train exits and interior and exterior pressure is equalized and dropped to seal the opening. Then the massive fans turn on to evacuate the tunnel from the west to the east portal. Don't stand close to those running fans or you might fall prey to the famous scifi scenario. I have extended comments on the east portal operations below.

D&RGW operated the tunnel and big coal mines near Somerset and Paonia on the Western Slope even though it was D&SL RR (Denver & Salt Lake RR) that inspired the tunnel after years of winter snow fighting campaigns over the Hill Division on the Continental Divide. Coal shipments will be taking a major hit if we want to come even close to global warming commitments, sans the idiota right. Denverites were always envious of Southern Wyoming and wanted their own transcontinental route to fuel its growth. D&SL RR operated the big standard gauge articulated Mallets over to the Western Slope and ran many trains over the divide when open. Find images of the station, Corona, on the Denver Public Library site, pretty astounding!

It’s on the calendar ..the temps just aren’t reflecting it at the moment.

NKP 765 books it west through Avalon, WI as it returns east.

I had the fortune to see this fantastic exhibition in Paris. Absolutely brilliant, highly recommended. Saatchi Gallery, until 3 May 2020

“The legend of Tutankhamun captured imaginations globally when his tomb was unearthed by British explorer Howard Carter and financier Lord Carnarvon in 1922.

Produced by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and IMG, and presented in London by Viking Cruises TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh unveils more than 150 original objects from the tomb, 60 of which have travelled out of Egypt for the first and final time before they return for permanent display within the Grand Egyptian Museum which is currently under construction.

Come and discover the most famous of the Pharaohs, and the young sovereign’s personal belongings as you follow his passage into everlasting life.

Prior to the London showing, the exhibition became France’s most visited of all time with attendance of over 1.4 million. Tickets are selling fast in London, sell-outs are expected and advance booking is highly recommended.”

Built in 1911 this is believed to be the Worlds first Booking Office built purely for selling flight tickets to the public. It was in a place that later became the Brooklands Race track but back then it was then known as " The Flying Village ".

The Old Station, Tintern. Near the village of Tintern (Tyndym), in the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, Wales (Cymru), United Kingdom, on Tuesday 2nd of February 2016.

About the photograph and the photo-shoot.

This is Sally, a model living in Wales, whom I booked for a couple of hours outdoor photo-shoot. I got in touch with Sally through one of the online modelling website, I can’t remember which ones, but could have been PurplePort or another website. After the pre-shoot communications, we arranged to meet up at The Old Station, Tintern.

She arrived with her husband and their little girl, and they were the first to arrive, then enjoyed a little bit of a day out in the grounds while they waited for me to arrive on time. When I parked my car, got out, and was looking for her, and she spotted me, so she waved me over.

The photo-shoot was split into two sections, one hour each. The first section was mainly fashion like photo-shoot, right next to the old railway carriages, those are the photos from the first section.

Here, she is wearing a casual style winter outfit, which is of a tan coloured faux fur jacket bought from a charity shop, along with her own sweater, her own blue jeans, and her flat heeled boots.

I asked her for flat heeled footwear because most women are not likely to wear high heels in such places like this, especially with uneven ground, and that she’s supposed to be dressed in a more casual style. Also, I asked for her to tuck her jeans into her boots for this kind of fashion style.

Here, she is posing next to an old and refurbished railway carriage which is a static display on what is left of the railway tracks, outside the old railway station. For more details about the railway station, feel free to read the article under the heading of About the location below.

Most of the starting shots were of her standing on the ground, in front of the carriage, before moving onto the platform, where she pose right next to the carriage with her feet on the carriage’s buffer.

The photos of her standing in front of the carriage were taken with the lens at various lengths and my position also at various distance from her, hence different background sizes, and different looks.

After those shots, she changed to a different fur jacket, and posed next to a different carriage. You can find them in the album titled Sally.

About the location.

The Old Station or Tintern railway station, is a former railway station on the Wye Valley Railway line that ran approximately 15 miles between the towns of Monmouth to the north and Chepstow in the south.

The station opened in November 1878 and was one of the four stations along the line, and the railway company chose to build a large station as they were hoping to generate more income from tourist visiting the nearby Tintern Abbey.

The Wye Valley Railway line was a railway line along the lower Wye Valley and often crossed over between Wales and England due to the River Wye being used as the border between the two countries.

The railway line was in use between 1876 to 1964, and was operated by Great Western Railway (GWR) until taken over by British Rail (BR). Once BR took over the railway line, they reviewed its viability and stopped passenger services in 1959, while allowing goods transportation to continue until the line closed in 1964.

The rail station was bought by the local country council, refurbished it into a café and exhibition, then opened to the public. Monmouthshire County Council later bought a couple of old carriages, which were refurbished as gift shop, tourism information, and an exhibition. The two carriages are displayed on what’s left of the rail tracks.

Now a Wetherspoon's Pub the Booking Office sits outside Waverley Station. The grade A listed façade of the low-slung building is the much-remodelled booking office of the original North British Railway Company's original railway station built in 1846. The building was used as the station's parcels office for many years, until around 1984.

When booking a trip months in advance of course there's always a little worry about if things are going to work out; but sometimes you just get lucky. This being a Sunday the hope was that maybe the Wheeling would run one train and could get a few shots, but it turned out to be quite a good day to be out in northern Ohio. This 732 rock train waiting to leave Carey would be the first of 5 Wheeling trains we would catch on a flawless spring day.

MUNDIAL RUSIA 2018- GRUPO H: POLONIA, COLOMBIA, SENEGAL Y JAPÓN

Few of the 42 million passenger who use Euston Underground station every year would guess that they pass within remnants of the original two stations which used to occupy this site.

Sealed off behind iron doors, or brick walls, is a complex network of tunnels, most of which closed to passengers when the Victoria line came to Euston in 1962.

These photographs, taken in May 2017, showcase the tunnels as they stand today.

Inspiration for the framing of the shots came from the 1975 New Topographics exhibition.
