Sweet! This father and son project was a labor of love that features GAF “Camelot” specialty shingles, quality wood craftsmanship and a front porch style you’ll see on area “people” homes. The dog house features flea-retardant cedar columns with a cultured stone wrap at the base and a back door for cleaning. The hanging bone at the front entry was left untreated so the new owners can customize it for their pet.

These are the bones of a partial gomphothere found in central Nevada by the college in 1987. The fossils date to 10 million years ago, when Nevada was a savanna. Fossil plants preserved with the remains include oaks, palms, and water chestnuts. The bones are displayed as they were found.
The animal died in a stream. Chew marks indicate that the carcass was scavenged. A flood then washed the remains downstream, pushing them against a sand bar in a tangle of leaves and wood. The turbulent waters crushed the skull and dislodged the upper tusks and washed them away (what you see is a reconstruction). Teeth and parts of the skull survived. Later lake sediments buried the sand bar and the fossils, preserving for ten million years.

Prosper has a nasty habit of chewing on the sink, the door hinges, knives--anything metal he can get his teeth around. I've been trying to tempt him with a nylon dog bone.
