Spring still hasn't arrived here, although the snow is finally gone. Yesterday, I went to our nearby community garden to see if anything had popped up, but all I could find was the bones of winter, which has its own kind of beauty.

Miss Tessa is guarding her bone with her life. Everyone needs to back off.

Through a gentle snowfall streetlights tugging at the darkness, reflecting off bone colored snow.

I found an old leaf with just his bones showing and decided I would play with it. I hope you like it.

I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape — the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.

Happy Halloween to all my Flickr Friends - have fun!

A nice skeleton that we found in a Kiehl's since 1851 store in Valencia, anatomically correct replica of a human skeleton, although it is not made with real bones.

In the words of Shakespeare, "When the hurlyburly's done, When the battle's lost and won ...", winter is a time to return to the essentials. Tune out the Trumpian chaos and appreciate the things that are important.

"The simplicity of Winter has a deep moral. The return of Nature, after such a career of splendor and prodigality, to habits so simple and austere, is not lost either upon the head or the heart. It is the philosopher coming back from the banquet and the wine to a cup of water and a crust of bread." ~ John Burroughs

I had a business partner visit me at work yesterday. We talk about our dogs frequently and so she brought Jasper a new rubber bone. It supposedly gives off a bacon scent when chewed. It was a big hit and great fun. I mean who wouldn't want a purple rubber bone that smells like bacon.

Hand carved whale bone sperm whale from French Polynesia for the Smile on Saturday challenge: White.

Though the craftsperson who carved this did not say it was supposed to be a representation of Moby Dick the factious white sperm whale and the main antagonist in Herman Melville's 1851 novel "Moby-Dick," I have named this carving "Moby Dick" and he resides in an honored place in my "cabinet of curiosities." Melville based the character on a real-life albino sperm whale named Mocha Dick. Mocha Dick lived in the southeastern Pacific Ocean in the early 19th century, usually encountered in the waters near Mocha Island, off the central coast of Chile. American explorer and author J. N. Reynolds published an account of the whale in "Mocha Dick, or The White Whale of the Pacific," printed in The Knickerbocker in 1839.

I saw this in a neighbours garden this week..... They are celebrating the coming of Halloween.....

I thought the contrast here was interesting. The bleached branches reminded me of white bones.

Crazy Bones was inspired by a children's game played in Ancient Greece and Rome called 'Astragal' (Knucklebones), where children played a similar game using sheep's knucklebones. This ancient pastime is also known as Tabas. Games played are reminiscent of marbles and jacks. Crazy Bones is a modern version of this game, played with characters molded from plastic. There are hundreds of individual characters, each character having a unique face and name. Each series has a number of 'rare' pieces that are sought after by collectors and are sold on numerous websites for many times their original value.

It's a bit cloudier today so hopefully it'll slow the butterflies down a bit, I'll be heading off now and see what's about. It's great to see so many people coming here from all over the UK. This is Bedruthan steps in Cornwall, a wonderful beach. Bone machine is by Pixies.

A late entry for the Lego competition, but couldn’t resist a Halloween crossover!

Was wondering how I could get the skeleton figure to appear to be in the ground when I noticed our chopping board on the drainer which just so happens to have a perfect size hole in it!

All set up and lit in-situ just a few colour tweaks.
