A convenience store in the weirdly named community of Gnaw Bone, Indiana. I sampled the tenderloin that offer after reading about it on Trip Advisor and it was very good, albeit a thicker version than is customary.

yes, these are human bones. from the tragedy in cambodia under pol pot's khmer rouge regime. it was a pretty intense thing to see and hear about. it was gut-wrenching to be here - there were bits of old clothing and bones (and american bullets. yes, our government gave ammo to the kmer rouge) on the ground - and the "killing factory" tul slang was filled up with pictures of all the innocent people that were murdered here. this was a genocide like the holocaust, but it happened in the 1970's and most people don't know much about it.
why were people killed? because they had eyeglasses, were educated, wore clothing that was colorful, and other arbitrary ridiculous reasons. it was intensely unfair - but the people doing the killing were often children or teens themselves who were misled and taught to fear most people.
the man posing in this picture was our tour guide, and he asked us to take a picture of this. it was the only picture i could bring myself to take all day.
i had to go back to the hotel and directly to bed after this; cried myself exhausted.

Allowing your main character to be partially swallowed by such a horrific creation certainly projects horrific imagery. The Bone Caves are a series of natural caves set into a high limestone cliff called Creag nan Uamh (Crag of the Caves). The caves are named for the large numbers of animal bones found during excavations.
There are four main cave openings in the cliffs, formed before the last ice age by water dissolving limestone in cracks in the surrounding rock. Subsequent glacial action and erosion of the glen by water left the caves hundreds of feet above the valley floor.
There is no indication that the caves were ever used as human habitat, but two separate human burials have been discovered within the caves.
In total, over 1000 pieces of reindeer antler have been found in the Bone Caves, with dates ranging from 47,000 to 8,300 years ago.
One rare find was the skull of a Northern lynx, dated to 1,770 years ago. This is the only Northern lynx ever found in Scotland. Other intriguing remains include a possible polar bear, arctic fox, wolf, and brown bear.
Finds from the caves are kept at the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. (Above Information Off Google)
