White Bay 2010

This is a colourised version of Bone Work, just for fun.

...when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show...

I've used this song before on another photo, but hey... an excellent song to go with this photo I think.

and Yet another shot of these amazing roots. i don't know if it's something usually accepted on the Olympic peninsula, but a kind lady told me that all these dead trees on the beach are usually called "bones". they perfectly fit the description to be honest, as a lot of them are organic and white in a bizarre way. Thousand of them in places. Rialto Beach is filled with these.

A iconic shot of Whitby. This Blue Whale jaw bone goes back to the days when Whitby was a major Whaling Port.

We see the bones of the land, the bones

of trees, the stark elegance of the underlying structure of life. ..."

Ezekiel 37

The Valley of Dry Bones

37 The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.

11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”

This photo was taken by my wife with an older DSLR that I hadn't sold. I convinced her to use a decent camera for this trip instead of a point-and-shoot. I think it paid off, and this image from Grytviken shows why. Two fur seal pups are sleeping on an old whale bone while a larger male rests nearby.

These seals can be quite territorial, and it applies to humans, too. We needed eyes in the back of our heads to keep track of them all as they moved about, fighting with each other and encouraging the silly tourists to move on. I saw many seals with large, fresh gashes in their hide due to clashes. Their canines are pretty impressive.

Chilly wintertime explorations over in the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge from a couple of years ago. So somewhere under I-40 on a two-track that lead to a pond/small lake and some creeks. I poked around in the woods and found the remnants of what was likely a deer skeleton.

3rd August 2019- David of Manchester based 'Bones Shake' brought "A scuzzed fuzzed blues" vibe to Jimmy's in Liverpool. These lads were first on by virtue of the least social media 'Likes' (a strange stipulation in my eyes, but then, i'm 48..) but they manged to captivate an early audience. Starting your set by casually wandering through the crowd with a megaphone blarring an American Police siren generally tends to grab peoples attention!!

Out of curiosity, (and to see if anyone actually reads this shit..) has anyone ever seen the movie 'Midnight Express'?

A handsome, minimalist, pick-up restaurant in the Architecture building on the UC Berkeley campus. Vietnamese menu.

Happy to see it’s open since the worst of the pandemic has passed. We think.

* As the chef/owner [he graduated from school here] reminds us, most of the world manages to eat every day, working with little more than rice and bones. And somehow they DO it!! Just to keep us honest and appreciative. . . .

The CSX Tampa Terminal Sub retains some of the Bone Valley's character into 2020. There are fewer trains moving about the area but still some core strength. CSX K33929 with a YN2 CW44AC brings a days gone by scene to the present with the wet rock phosphate splitting NE Sutton bound for Mosaic Riverview in East Tampa.

Bit of a classic shot from the Natural History Museum. I was surprised by how big the place was, it seemed like it just went on for ever.

I have had this one kicking around for a while, as a lot of my recent posts have been trees I thought it was time for one without a tree in sight.

Taken at Berrow sands, the wreck of the SS Nornen. It was a very windy evening and even with my big tripod is was difficult to stop the camera shaking.

No matter how long we're separate during this bone-chilling winter. My love for you will not fade.

'm going to start a series about a woman who has someone she dearly loves gone for a long time during Christmas & through out the winter. Every week or so these pictures will evolve into a story & you'll find out more about this woman. This will be fun for me because I can act out something & create something amazing. I hope you all follow this project & bare with me. :)

Really wish I could continue this project, but one thing...there's no snow.
