I liked the texture of this strange object that I found on the beach. Parts of the rest of it make me think it's a fish bone, but what part of a fish is this?
Bone lace bobbins with various forms of decoration including simple drilled dots, filed lines, spiral work and inlaid wire.
Some of the dots make up names: these would be ordered as ‘specials’ from the turner at a weekly market or as he traveled from village to village looking for sales.
All these bobbins are very old, some turned more than 300 years ago. The bone used was usually mutton bone.
Glass beads called ‘spangles’ were attached to the slim South Midland area style of bobbin with copper or brass wire to add weight when in use on the pillow.

Fracture or sprain of the cartilage surrounding the bone or diseases such as osteoarthritis can result in bone pain. Apart from severe unbearable pain, the patients find it hard to move the affected bone.
"It spread legs, arms and heads all over, killed both the horses and ruined a perfectly good tank of soup."
When bone cells called osteocytes sense mechanical stress on the skeleton due to activities such as weight-lifting or even walking, they transform the forces into biological responses, which signal other cells to make or remove bone. Many researchers studying osteocytes also believe that they produce factors that transmit information to other organs and tissues.

Many people involved in the conspiracy and other high powered members of the goverment were members of this organization. Skull and Bones was founded at Yale College in New Haven, Connecticut in 1832. It is the oldest and most prestigious of Yale's seven secret societies. Among the others are: Scroll & Key, Book & Snake, Wolf's Head, Eliahu, and Berzelius. These fraternities serve as a recruiting ground for young men destined for careers in government, law, finance and other influential sectors of American life. Skull & Bones is the elite of the elite among these secret societies. Only Scroll & Key can claim a near equal influence on American affairs over the past 160 years.
Unlike the Greek fraternities on most other American university campuses, Skull & Bones and its similar secret societies exist exclusively at Yale. They are not part of any nationwide public association. The other elite Ivy League colleges, Harvard and Princeton have similar e~clusive secret societies. Yet, even among these few universities, the secret societies of Yale-led by Skull & Bones-are unchallenged in their influence on American political affairs.

This is Fionn. He lived in the field next to my sister's home. He was a beautiful horse whom at the end of his life turned literally into, 'a bag of bones'. He passed away last fall and left a very lonely companion named Cookie to wander the fields alone.
This photo is a composite of Fionn circa September 2010 and me from today.
I wanted to represent bones in a non human way and I felt Fionn was the best expression of this.
I'm sorry for any messy composite work... I'm still new at this. ;)
