block printed on some old housing plans and on roll of some rice paper i came up on

when you paste rice paper on a surface it blends with whatever the background is......

kinda like the effect i created in this piece

Another shot of my hand built printmaking press that better shows off the clothes drying capabilities of my "studio" - not to mention the poor lighting conditions.

Post modern block printing

In our group there is nothing about the monarca's regalia that distinguishes it from the other matachines other than a kind of poncho-like tunic (which is also worn by the capitanes of which there are ideally 4). So, in this rubber print, there is nothing that readily identifies the monarca as such. However, the monarca needs to be highly visual. Monarcas in every group must be constantly aware of where they are taking the dancers and must be in communication with the drummer and the capitanes. Hence, the intense eyes. I didn't mean to make them quite this intense, though. (Oops). We've also had at least one woman as monarca.

The monarca represents the Aztec ruler Moctezuma whose name means "He who is angry in a noble way" very roughly translated.

En nuestro grupo no hay nada respecto al vestuario del monarca que lo distingue entre los otros matachines aparte de un tunico parecido a un poncho que tambien usan los capitanes (de los cuales deber haber 4). Asi que, en esta xilografia, no hay nada que identifica de tal. Sin embargom los monarcas de cada grupo necesitan estar muy visual. El monarca debe estar sumamente consciente respecto adonde le esta llevando el grupo ademas de estar en freceunte contacto con sus capitanes y el (o, como en nuestro caso, la) tamborista. De ahi, los intensos ojos en este grabado. Nomas que, no quise hacerlos tan, tan intensos. Tambien hemos tenido a una mujer como monarca. El monarca representa al emperador azteca Moctezuma cuyo nombre significa algo asi como "el que se enoja como un noble."

Beat coffee and sugar together till it turns into cream and triples up in volume,

pour hot milk over it, stir, wait a while, and then sprinkle cocoa using a shape cutout
