If you're wondering where sites like flickr, facebook and many many others exist, then this is it. A datacenter. Temperature controlled rooms with fire extinguishing equipment and lots and lots of power. Security guards outside, loud humming and buzzing on the inside. Not an extremely pleasant place to be in, but if you set your camera for long exposures you walk away with some nice pictures..

[9:55] Ashur Kentoku stirs sleepily, then twitches awake with a gasp, blinking and struggling to sit up, mewing in panic and pain....
[9:57] Emberen Twine jumps forward, jarred from her thoughts as Ash throws a fit. She holds her arms out, hoping to help calm her and lay her back down, softly shushing her. She murrs to her, letting her hear her voice. "It's okay. I'm here."
[10:00] Ashur Kentoku flails a bit, then clings to Ember, burying her face against her chest, panting...."Bad dream," she mumbles, her words muffled. "The Shadow...it was hurting me again, and I couldnt escape...." She trembles as she holds on....
[10:01] Ashur Kentoku: "Just a bad dream," she mumbles again..."just a bad dream..." over and over to herself....
[10:01] Emberen Twine clutches her gently, radiating warmth. "Just a dream," she murrs, trying to keep her heart beat steady, her breathing slow and calm. She strokes Ash's hair. "You're with me now and I am keeping you safe."
[10:04] Ashur Kentoku shivers, waves passing over her body, still clinging, blinking at the familiar body she sees lying in the bed across the way...."No...no, nono," she mews, recognizing Andrei, and starts to flail weakly again...
[10:05] Ashur Kentoku: ...as she wakes from one nightmare into another.
[10:05] Emberen Twine tries to calm Ashur, holding her more firmly and guiding her back down to the bed. "Ash..you have to stop. Just calm," she murrs. "I don't want to have the doctor in here to make you sleep."
[10:07] Ashur Kentoku: "Whyyyy?" she wails, starting to cry now. "For god's sake, what did he ever do to anyone to deserve this? What did I do?"
[10:09] Emberen Twine tries reeeally hard to keep it together, fighting the urge to join Ash in her hysterics. The gods know she has every reason to be upset. She keeps her voice soft and low. "Ash...shhhh...Bad things happen sweet cat. I don't know why. It isn't a sign of deserving...just a sign of where the world is lacking." She looks over solemnly at Andrei's lifeless form. "Please...try to calm down so you don't hurt yourself."
[10:13] Ashur Kentoku gasps and gulps, eyes wet, and looks away from Andrei, covering her eyes with a hand. She struggles to stop crying, hating herself for showing weakness, for being weak. "I was made to Protect," she says, anger in her voice. "But I'm never around to help those who need my protection." She gives a little snarl. "Who did this to him? Who was it? I'll fucking kill whoever did it!"
[10:16] Emberen Twine: "Ashur," she says in that commanding tone. "Knock it off. You can't protect anyone until you help yourself get better." She pauses, waiting for Ash to calm down. "The doctor didn't know much. Called Andrei a criminal, to which I informed him he was daft and should keep his mouth shut about things he obviously knows nothing about. I think Forge got him involved in something bad at the church. I don't know much more but I am working on finding out. Taladis knows something. Maybe you can ask him when he comes to visit, yeah?"
[10:22] Ashur Kentoku: "Like he'll take time off from his testosterone-fuelled posing to come see me?" she snarls, ignoring the tearing sensations she feels from inside her broken body, tired of it's weakness, willing her nanites to speed her healing. "If it was the church then its probably the Parish or the fucking Catwalkers involved again! Must I fucking kill every last miserable selfish motherfucker in this town, starting with Forge, before shit like this stops?" She glares up at Ember's face, but still clings to her arm with a hand, before sliding it down to fumble for Em's hand, gripping it tightly, with more strength than yesterday.
[10:26] Emberen Twine places her hand in Ash's as she gazes down on her, her face remaining calm, almost...serene. "You can't control everything Ash," she murrs. "I know it is how you are designed, but....perhaps it is your lesson to learn. You need learn to let go a little. It will help you see what is truly worth holding on to." She takes her free hand and clears the stray hair that has fluffed and landed on her face before stroking the raven locks gently.
[10:32] Ashur Kentoku: Some of Ash's anger and hatred melts from her as Ember pets her, as she hears the words spoken. She stops glaring and sniffs, wiping her nose with the back of a hand and looks a bit sullen instead, although a few purrs escape her nose. She likes Em's attentions and is suddenly tired again after her small exertions...."Some of what is truly worth holding onto can be taken away like that," she merrs quietly, glancing at Andrei's form again briefly. Then, looking up, she mews, "Thank you."
[10:36] Emberen Twine offers a small smile and a shake of her head as Ashur calms. "I know," she whispers, tears burning their way up to exit. "I have nearly lost you twice now and..." she pauses and gathers herself before continuing. "...and I know you are the one thing truly worth holding onto." She runs her fingers the length of Ash's hair, smiling at her , though her eyes are solemn. "And you aren't out of the woods yet, so...if you would get better....entirely, for me first...before avenging any wrong doings, I would very much appreciate it." Her words seem to get smaller as she speaks, hoping that Ash recognizes how important it is for her to heal...how important it is, if not for her sake, then for Ember's.
[10:40] Ashur Kentoku: "I hate it here," she mews softly. "I want to heal as much...as you want me to...but...I hate it here. I'm off life-support, I want to go....please? Please Em?" She looks pleadingly at the girl she loves, that means so much to her. "Please take me away from here. The Shadow knows I'm here...the Catwalkers know I'm here...too many enemies that could just walk in and blow me away."
[10:43] Emberen Twine: "No one is going to blow you away Ash. I am here guarding you. I won't let anyone harm you. If you exert yourself too soon, and something inside you rips open again, we will not have the means to fix it. You will end up here for even longer. Give yourself another day or so to heal before transfer. Then we will take you to the Oracle, and you will recover there. Though, I imagine that will be much like recovering in the eye of the storm as it is in Levi."
[10:49] Ashur Kentoku: "Fucking UAC aren't my enemies," she growls. "I've never been hassled by one, come to think of it. Makes me wonder what all those so-called past "victims" of UAC violence did to deserve it, if any. I've had a Catwalker walk up to me twice now and shoot me down in cold blood, try to murder me. I've had the Pack shoot at me with sniper cannons, for fun, like hunting a wild animal, jolly good sport, don't you know? And now that fucking...thing...that Shadow with the red eyes...." She looks at Em, a strange look on her face. "I'll take my chances with the UAC and the WU," she says quietly, "because it seems I'm out of chances here, among the people I'm trying....was trying, to help."
[10:55] Emberen Twine blinks, one ear drooping off her head as Ash speaks. "Wow...never thought I would hear you say that. But...yeah...I can't deny that those same thoughts have crossed my mind. Did you know that Rein was beaten nearly to death by Catwalkers?" She sighs and ponders. "Truth is..there is no right or wrong side Ash. Sides are for people who can't think for themselves. Life isn't an all or nothing proposition. When you are doing things right...I think...no faction or group view is going to entirely meet your beliefs."
[11:01] Ashur Kentoku: "Which is why I'll continue to be a loner," she mews. "I'm disgusted...and not cared as to who does what to whom anymore, so long as those close to me are safe. So long as I can *keep* them safe." She struggles to a sitting position with a grimace, and goes chalk white, her vision blurring out into a misty haze..."Whoa!" she squeaks, one hand gripping Em's shoulder, the other clenching the bed-rail ,supporting her weight.
[11:02] Emberen Twine: "Ashur," she growls. "Lay down." She still supports her, waiting to see if Ash's body will relent, but she feels the burn of anger within her. "I will have the doctor make you sleep if you don't behave"
[11:04] Ashur Kentoku: "I'm just sitting," she mews, staring blindly ahead of her, her voice sounding like its coming from faaaaar away. "Not...going...anywhere," she mumbles.
[11:05] Emberen Twine: "It isn't time yet for sitting stubborn cat. Now lay down, or, so help me, I will keep you unconscious until your body has repaired itself!" Yeah...she means business.
[11:06] Ashur Kentoku allows Em to lay her down again, then turns and smiles at her face. "I sat up by myself!"
[11:07] Emberen Twine feels an exhausted smile roll across her lips and facepalms. "Gods you are difficult." She fights a chuckle. "Don't do it again," she says, forcing her tone lower, though she comes up just a bit shy of commanding.
[11:11] Ashur Kentoku: "Okays," Ash merrs, still smiling. "I'll rest now. Tomorrow I wanna leave this place. Go to the Community centre for a day or so while we arrange to go to Levi...."
[11:12] Emberen Twine: "If the doctors say it is alright, then I will take you. If not, you will stay here. And if I have to have them keep you sedated, I will." She quirks a brow waiting for protest, though it won't much matter. Her mind is made up and she has counted to ten.
[11:15] Ashur Kentoku says nothing, already planning her escape, her crawl-route and distractions to use on the MCMC personnel, if need be. She smiles instead. "Oh, I'm sure they'll say it's okay!" she says brightly. "And then we can snuggle in the Zebra kitty basket!"
[11:18] Emberen Twine laughs out loud and shakes her head, knowing Ash WAY too well for that. She makes a mental note to talk to the nurses and all staff about a possible escaping kitty. Her face falls blank as she stares at Ash, nearly looking down her nose at the deviant. "If I leave to get food...and ocme back to an empty bed...I will hunt you down myself and you will not like the price you pay for your freedom," she mews in an alarmingly nice tone. She smiles with a curt nod. "Now sleep. Let your body and the nanites continue to work for you."
[11:22] Ashur Kentoku's ears flatten and her face falls, a sullen look developing again. She humphs and folds her arms across her chest, then rolls onto her right side, the side with unbroken ribs and closes her eyes, folding her hands underneath her chin, sulking...and almost immediately falls asleep. A slight purr escapes from her as she rests peacefully, dreaming of freedom...
[11:24] Emberen Twine laughs silently to herself once more and watches Ash sleep. She smiles, impressed that the kitten is able to turn onto her side, a sigh of relief issuing fom her as she thinks about how she is going to keep Ash safe as she recovers. "Sleep sweetly Ash," she whispers, continuing to stroke her hair.

Newcastle/Gateshead's Millennium Bridge performing its regular daily midday tilt. This is the newest of 7 bridges that join the city centres of Newcastle and Gateshead (with a handful more further upstream). Watching the timelapse sequence you can see why this one is nicknamed the "Blinking Eye Bridge".
For maximum fun, pick a single person and try to follow them through the whole video. The cyclist in a red coat is hard to miss. :)
Shot as a sequence of 2,257 still photographs over about 10 minutes, using a Canon 40D, and converted to video using QuickTime Pro. See Vimeo for a full set of instructions.

Back home at the big computer, I found a shot I like better. The planes seem larger relative
to the moon, and there's a red light on the bigger plane. I think I need to get a pro account so I can just replace the older copy instead of loading a 2nd.

Many of you know that the Crab Nebula (M1) has a pulsar in its center that is at the origin of these filamentary structures. With its sweet name PSR B0531+21, the Crab Pulsar has a magnitude of 16 and is thus visible on long exposure times.
In addition, it has a frequency of about 34ms with two distinct pulsations in this period. It is therefore possible to detect its pulsations via the Lucky Imaging method thanks to shorter exposure times.
But here a first challenge appears. The pulsar is visually close to another star, which implies that it is necessary not only to resolve it temporarily but also spatially. In other words, very short exposure times and a large diameter were required.
One of the drawbacks of this technique was that it was necessary to find at least two stars clearly visible on the raw images in the field in order to perform the alignment and therefore all the processing. I therefore had to take images with a fairly large size in order to find two stars visible on 5ms exposures, generating about 2TB of data to process.
Then comes the longest part which consists in sorting all the images according to their position in the pulsar period in order to stack them together. I wrote a small python script to sort the 471000 images based on their timestamp. It took about 1 month of non-stop process for sorting, aligning and stacking.
This was by far the most complex and longest project I have done so far and I am proud to present the following animation.
On each of the stacks, we can barely see the nebulosity, so I mixed the original starless with a Halpha starless made with a 150/750 telescope for aesthetics.

Couldn't find a better title.. Help, anyone?? :)
Today was awesome! Haha :D I didn't sleep the whole night because I didn't feel sleepy, so I kept awake and watched t.v. and went on the net on and off and raided the fridge and stole chocolates and ice cream. Haha :D I think I'm goina get fat! :D But no worries, I lose it at school :P :D
Then later at 5AM I went out around the hospital campus, which is quite big, let me tell you! I wore a sweatshirt and kept the hood on, so that no one could recognise me :P But then later, i got tired and hot of it, so I put it down. :)
After that, I returned home at 6am, got ready for school and took the car to school at 7am. School was even better!
We have this festival, Onam.. actually the South Indians have it (I'm from the North :P). So it was celebrated in our school.. most of the time went into that. It was kinda fun..
But even more fun, was hanging out in the class and joking around with the other Nikita and the guys! Haha :D
Awesome awesome awesome day!!! :D
Wheeehooooooooooooooo!!!

False-color narrowband composite of NGC 6826 taken by Hubble's Wide Field Planetary Camera II instrument in December of 2007.
NGC 6826 is located in the constellation of Cygnus and is referred to as the "Blinking Planetary". Through a small telescope, the brightness of the central star in the nebula will overwhelm the much fainter surrounding nebula. Use of averted vision will cause the nebula to appear to "blink" in and out of view.
A characteristic of this nebula are fast moving jets of gas known as Fast Low-Ionization Emission Regions, or FLIERs, highlighted in red here. These jets of material move much faster than the surrounding nebula, indicating that they are much younger than the nebula itself.
Processing Details:
Narrowband bicolor composite of Hydrogen Alpha (Hα) and Doubly Ionized Oxygen (O-III) filter images. Images assigned to a HOO palette. With Hα assigned to the red channel and O-III assigned to the blue and green channels. Resulting image closely approximates natural color in nebulae, though it does tend to throw star colors off.
Filters Used:
O-III: WFPC2 - F502N
Hα: WFPC2 - F658N

What's the odds of blinking in two of the images at the wrong time? By the time I got to the last shot... if looks could kill, I'd be dead on the spot.
The triplets were three separate images taken manually, in fairly quick succession (no motor drive, or whatever it's called these days). Then stacked and blended in Photoshop.
Not a part of the animals on exhibition at the Copenhagen Zoo, but flew in to try to steal some food from the otters. This gave me the chance to get some nice closeups - but this one of the heron blinking was the most interesting!
NGC 6826 (also known as Caldwell 15) is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Cygnus at a distance of roughly 2,000 light years. It is commonly referred to as the "blinking planetary", although many other nebulae exhibit such "blinking".
When viewed through a small telescope, the brightness of the central star overwhelms the eye when viewed directly, obscuring the surrounding nebula.
However, it can be viewed well using averted vision, which causes it to "blink" in and out of view as the observer's eye wanders.
Interestingly, the Blinking Planetary nebula exhibits two jets of ionized material known as Fast Low-Ionization Emission Regions, or FLIERS. They appear to be relatively young, moving outwards at supersonic speeds. I was quite surprised to find that I captured those FLIERs in my image, taken last night at the Loowit Imaging Observatory.
Captured with a 10-inch Meade LX200 and a Nikon D5500 DSLR.
10x10-second and 45x30-second captures at ISO1600, stacked in Deep Sky Stacker, then post-processed in Adobe Photoshop CS6, with final adjustments performed and final export executed in Adobe Lightroom 6.

CREATE!!! Inspired by the "red lights of home," the stunning blinking red lights on the wind turbines that shine at night over Desert Hot Springs, my "grandson" Danny asked me to make him a Perler Bead bracelet to remind him of the times we returned home at night to DHS after a long day in LA. I found some translucent red beads with glitter in them and so, when the bracelet is held up to the light, it looks a lot like the brilliant lights of home.
I could not find a really adequate picture of the windmill lights- the first picture is a detail from a Flickr picture by photographer Michelle C. Torres-Grant, taken from the hills of DHS looking out toward Palm Springs.

I captured 60 minutes of data trying to find the James Webb Space Telescope using positional data obtained from TheSkyLive (theskylive.com/where-is-jwst). This video shows the movement of the JWST over that 60 minute timeframe on March 9, 2023. The JWST is currently located in the constellation Leo. The blinking from magnitude 17 to 15 was caused by the JWST slewing to a new target during my observation.
