Last week world’s greatest zeppelin (some call it a blimp) flew over the city of Pijnacker and her surroundings. The zeppelin followed the N 470 an important road between Zoetermeer and Rotterdam. A great number of inhabitants of the area was invited to come along, 12 at a time. Photos were taken during the start at Rotterdam Airport.

It's Lawnya Vawnya time again in St. John's. A bunch of indie artists are playing music all over the downtown area for the next few days. This is the 6th year for the Lawnya Vawnya festival, it's always a good week.
It could be seen many miles away, and getting closer did not reveal much, other than the lines it is dragging along. Radio/TV relay, is what I guess this is for.

Or even Mary friggin' Poppins. It was actually a blimp. Or a hawk (they were both flying around).
He tagged along today with the camera and I.
Morning rush-hour traffic in Seattle yesterday was greeted with a a giant blimp 200 feet in the air inviting them to "Join The Flotilla" and take part in mass direct actions to stop Shell's planet destroying oil rigs bound for the arctic.
In addition to damning us with irreversible climate chaos, Arctic
drilling would inevitably lead to a ecological disaster. We the People of Puget Sound say "sHell No!" to the Port of Seattle granting Shell Oil use of our public lands and the traditional lands of the Duwamish as a staging ground for Ecotrocity.
Join the Flotilla, sign-up for trainings on Kayaks, water safety, and more!
Commissioner Bill Bryant laughed off the outrage of Seattleites. Bryant smugly made light of people acting out of moral clarity to disrupt Shell's audacious arctic drilling scheme with their bodies and their kayaks. Well, we take that as a challenge. This moment is an opportunity for people from across this region to unite against so-called "leaders" who act as if everything is up for sale.
A massive nonviolent presence on the water, fueled by both our love for this beautiful place AND our commitment to leaving future generations a livable, thriving planet could be strong enough to upset Shell's plans and help us all shift course. Similar to 1999, arrogance and foolishness is inadvertently mustering the will of "We the People," this time it's on the water as well, in the form of a people's fleet, and potentially a flotilla of unprecedented magnitude.

Together, we can do something historic on this Salish Sea. If you don't think a small thing can make a big difference, then you've never been stuck inside of a tent with a mosquito. This is your opportunity to become part of the Mosquito Fleet, a nonviolent, on water action force for good, "Swarming against global warming," as one of its founders John Sellers says.
Opportunity favors the prepared so that what we are going to do. The growing coalition is partnering with Alki Kayak Tours to provide this uprising with access to safety and skills trainings, as well as some creative tactics and opportunities to engage in on water actions. By sliding-scale donations, whether you can pay $5 or $50, we invite you to get on the water and Skill Up (Kayaks provided). Bring your own if you like. Instruction will be tailored to experience levels from beginning to advanced.
We will be adding multiple additional dates and training opportunities. Check out kayak trainings at www.shellno.org/

I saw this guy floating around above the U Akron campus the other day, so I got a shot of it. Not the best picture in the world, but I think it was cool anyway.

A rare treat, I heard them coming (it's easy to recognize the sound of these engines), and they soared directly over my house. The GZ-20's carry two fuel injected Continental I0-360's, producing 210 horsepower each. An altered version of this engine is used on the Pitts Special acrobatic airplane. The propellers are pusher Hartzells, constant-speed and reversible. They are custom-made for the Goodyear blimps.
The Spirit of America was christened September 5, 2002 by the mother of NYPD Officer Stephen Driscoll, who was killed in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11.
In addition to the four pilots, the Spirit of America operation has a crew of 16 including aircraft mechanics, radio and TV techs, ground handlers. Three support vehicles complement the Spirit of America's operations, including an 18-wheel tractor-trailer mobile maintenance vehicle. The Spirit of America follows a line of California based Goodyear blimps (Columbia 1968-92 and Eagle 1992-2002), based in Carson, California between Long Beach and downtown Los Angeles, about 15 air miles west of my home.
This photo was taken by the crew of the Fuji blimp. You can see their shadow just to the right of the fourteenth green.
You know that you are near Charlotte and there is a golf tournament going on when you see the Met Life Blimp passing by your house!
Driving home from Harpers Ferry, I saw a blimp flying around Frederick. So we headed to the airport and then watched as it landed briefly and take off again. So. Very. Cool.
