Something about the look from this Red-crested Turaco made me think of a Southern woman looking at me with soft sympathy, as if to say, "Bless your heart."
Every visit I have undertaken to the Brevard Zoo over the past 15 years or so, has impressed me by the breadth of their collection. Birds, reptiles, mammals from all over the world, in a relatively small regional zoo, which is very accessible and well maintained. If you find yourself on the Space Coast of Florida, I think it's worth a visit.

POSTING JUVENILE BIRDS FROM HOME

A FAMILIAR and unmistakable black and white, long tailed bird, the Juvenile has more black plumage, with the head feathers still to mature. at close range a bluish-green sheen can be seen on the wings and tail. A opporttunistic omnivore, its diet includes fruit from our fig tree, insects, animal road kills and the eggs and young of birds, it will also happily scavenge discarded leftover foods scraps. Widespread resident all year round.

I may not have to venture far for colors in the near future... like to Lowes or Home Depot, hahaha..... as I'm starting to see signs of Spring in my own back yard. These are crocuses that have come up in my flowerbed. They're really yellow, but I had fun "tweaking" them and this was the final result. Hope you like it.

SUMMER VISITOR, to the region, observation tips, visit almost any large reedbed in southern England, and you should hear a sharp tche call, and if your very lucky they occasionally clamber up the reed stems to sing. .............

l didn't know it at the time...but the couple you can see ahead took half an hour to get to were l was standing through the ankle deep mud...Generally it would take 3 minutes to get to me from where they were...when they arrived l was astounded to see they were both around 85 years old if a day, and were holding each other hands...Bless...we chatted for a while and they went on their merry way through the woods which was in an even muddier state than from whence they'd come, l gave them a 10 minute start and l followed them just incase one of them took a flyer and they needed help. Bless

IT WAS ONE OF THOSE DAYS, when nothing was happening, we all have them, was sitting in the hide, waiting, and willing this tufty to swim past this area of reeds that was being highlighted by a brief show of sun, which also meant it had to go past the hide, eventually it took a mad rush, hence the large wake of water, and luckily, managed to capture this one. Was informed of a rare woodpecker coming to drink, occasionally at the above bowl and we did not have to wait long.
Its Golden tail could not be seen but is only visible in flight. But hope you agree it's a real beauty, heavily streaked, with a barred green back. His arrival caused quite a joyful reaction even among the Gambian bird guilds.
