This is from my 1998 Maritimes provinces vacation, where I visited all the Maritimes in Canada. This was taken on film and scanned in, with scanning edges left in here for effect, giving it a bit of an "old feel".
I was taking pictures of some long-boarders (skateboarding) in Portland and this guy showed up with a grocery bag and a Franzia boxed wine cooler. He proceeded to drink the whole thing, or what was left of it. He was quite vocal and I couldn't tell if he was hostile or not, but he seemed harmless for the most part. I kept my camera gear away from him just in case. He did grab hold of my hand at one point.. yikes! I kept snapping picture after picture of him and I'm not sure if he was aware that I was. Most of them, I had connected a remote cord and was triggering the camea while holding the camera above me with a monopod. He was so out of it, I don't know if he knew where he was. After talking to him... or attempting to make conversation with him, I discovered that he enjoys singing. I couldn't make out the lyrics or a tune though... He claimed to be featured in magazines for just about everything.. and when I asked his name he insisted that he was called, "The Blame".

Goldenrods vex me! There are 19 species in Florida. I think these members of the aster family are beautiful but they almost all look alike to me. This one lives in Sweetbay Natural Area in Palm Beach County and, based upon what lives in nearby areas, I believe this to be either S. odora var. chapmanii or S. fistulosa. This one has fuzzy stems & is growing moist pine flatwoods.
I vote S. fistulosa, the Pinebarren Goldenrod (which means it's probably something else entirely :-)
By the way, goldenrod does not cause hay fever. That is the job of ragweed (Ambrosia spp.) and goldenrod just gets the blame. Goldenrod are insect pollinated while ragweed plants are wind pollinated and release billions of tiny pollen grains into the air. So go hug a goldenrod today!
