Finished my sampler. The charts were from the book Elizabethan Cross Stitch and I used dark blue DMC floss on Aida..

This is my first 'blackwork' project, therefore I was having a tough time starting part two. Thanks to Google I found some great online help if there are other BW rookies like me:

Now I feel more confident about my stitching...(after four or five rip outs) things are looking 'better'. I am still struggling with 'knots' in my thread...guess I have not 'mastered' starting and stopping; may be using too long a thread. Sorry for the blurry pictures. I have only a few green backstitches to do for part one.

This was a delight to stitch due in part to the bright colours.
It was my first foray into Blackwork stitchery and really love the effect.
Pattern was from designer Lesley Teare.
Stitched on 28 count DMC Linen Natural with DMC threads and Mill Hill beads.
Finished as a flat fold by my husband.
Was gifted as a birthday present to my neighbour who turned 90 today.
An attempt at "Elizabethan boudoir photography". I am wearing my newly completed Blackwork trimmed Elizabethan smock. The image of the Lady in her underclothes, hair down, and bare feet on her bed would have been highly suggestive... the image itself also suggests other themes....comtemplation of aging beauty perhaps.... photo by Glenn Eilers, photo editing by LM Johnson.
