Bit of history quoted below… but all that just to say: IT’S A HOLIDAY TODAY! And, even better, beyond the flags… a haunted house! Well, maybe it’s not actually “haunted haunted” but every time I visit for photos, my imagination creates vivid scenarios and I must warn all, It IS haunted!
"Fête Nationale du Québec, (Quebec National Holiday”) also called Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, official holiday of Quebec, Canada. Observed on June 24, the holiday marks the summer solstice and honours the patron saint of French Canadians—Jean Baptiste, or John the Baptist.
Québecois begin their celebration of the occasion the night before, with bonfires, dancing, and the singing of traditional folk songs. The morning of the holiday, parades are held in major centres. A Roman Catholic mass is usually occasioned for the holiday and is followed by popular music concerts by local, national, and international artists. French Canadians living outside Quebec also celebrate the holiday, leading many non-French Canadians living in Quebec to consider it an ethnic holiday instead of a provincial holiday.
In 1636 French Canadians revived an ancient Gallic tradition in honour of the summer solstice by lighting bonfires. The annual pagan event was eventually combined with a celebration for the feast of St.John the Baptist led by the national society of French Canadians, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society. This society was founded in 1834 with the name the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Association (changed to the modern form in 1914). In 1977 then-premier of Quebec René Lévesque officially recognized the day as a national holiday in the province."

Bit of a cheat - this photo of race winner Kristian Marshall was taken at the bottom of the hill during an earlier race.
I'm very pleased with myself having rebuilt this lens after it had jammed solid. Considering the amount of electronics and tiny tiny screws inside and the complicated mechanism. I amazed myself to have got it fixed!! The photos in this Album or Set were taken with this lens days after the rebuild, sorted!! :-D

bit by bit, Landis Avenue in Vineland, NJ, is being restored to its former glory. Last month we saw the grand re-opening of the Landis Theater, pictured above. At night, it really hums.

I love the colours of the rocks around beaches of Darwin... This was taken last night at East Point and has had no editting done aside from my watermark and a slight straighten of the horizon.
The rocks up here are amazing colours. Hopefully this picture kinda shows it.
A Bit of A Do 2023 at Pebmarsh produced the usual eclectic mix of bygones, vehicles, machinery and good cheer despite indifferent weekend weather.

French woodworking hand tools are not very well known. But the frenchmen made some very nice hand tools. This bit brace from Val D’or is a nicely made brace with a octagonal chuck shell, screw retained chuck, ball beatings in the top handle and a well working ratchet.
The jaws are in good condition and well shaped and the handles made of fruitwood are also in very nice condition.
