Centro BIT en Colonia del Sacramento: un espacio de recepción, de calidad para los turistas

This is a very rare E-type, one of about ten outside bonnet latch coupes. It's almost ready for the road again after a whole lot of work. Lovely car -- white with dark blue interior.

A bit overgrown. I should return during the winter for better photographs.

Michael Beaver, Jr., son of an early Union Township settler, likely constructed this residence in the mid-19th century. The 1902 County of Ross: A History of Ross County, Ohio contains the following information about Michael's father:

Michael Beaver came from Virginia to Ross [C]ounty in 1796 and remained two years, when he went to Kentucky to avoid the malarial troubles which were prevalent at the time on the bottom lands of Ross [C]ounty. But he returned to Union [T]ownship in 1800 and purchased eleven hundred acres from the Chilton survey on Deer Creek. Mr. Beaver was a soldier in the war of the Revolution, and his son Michael responded to his country's call in 1812. Mr. Beaver, [S]r., died in 1821, and his son Michael lived in the township until he passed the eighty-fifth milestone [1874] on life's journey.

A bit of a departure from my normal style, but it's fun to try something different.

Maybe I'm just in a mellow mood, as it is the opposite of the normally hard, crisp and contrasty images I do.

The softness is down to the subject though, the setup is exactly the same as I used for the glass of drink yesterday. No digital trickery either, as apart from a slight crop and resize, this is straight from the camera. The slightly warm tones are produced by the paper below, which give a hint of colour to the flash lighting. I could have corrected the white balance or even changed it to a monotone image, but I liked the warmth.

Guess I had better say what it is, as it may not be obvious :)

It's the top of a drinks decanter and is in a frosted glass, with a slightly opaque plastic bung to fit into the bottle part. The frosting on the glass almost acts like it's own light diffuser.

Rather than the normal setup shot, I have shown inside the light box/table that I used for the shot. and added a bit more of a description below.

There is lots of fine detail.

This is your four week warning to leave New York (or the whole of the USA, if you want to be totally safe)! The flickr's pictured here will be roaming the streets of the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the first week of June, and will be frequenting well-known haunts (further details to follow...).

Alternatively, you may have ideas of cooler, more exciting, photogenic, etc... venues for them to disrupt in the usual manner... in which case, they would very much appreciate your suggestions, and - if you dare - your company.

A bit of an early Christmas gift arrived (partially paid for by my sweetie), though she's not ready for a photo-shoot yet since her clothes haven't arrived.

I've named her Rowan and she is a "Berry Basic Version" from jerryberrys.net. These little beauties (about the size of Dals) are a hand-painted resin head on a 23cm obitsu body. I'll make sure to take oodles and oodles of pictures once she's found something cute to wear!

Happy Women's Day everyone :-)

Part of the winding engine at Astley Green Colliery Museum.

(The winding duty for the Number 1 shaft required the installation of one of the largest steam winding engines used in Britain. It was manufactured by Yates and Thom of Blackburn and installed between 1910 and 1912. It has four cylinders in twin tandem compound arrangement which developed nearly 2.5 Mega Watts at 58 rpm. The rope speed was 26 metres per second when winding coal.

The Number 2 engine was also built by Yates and Thom but it was only half the size of the Number 1 engine with two cylinders in cross compound arrangement. The delivery of the engine was delayed by the first world war and it was not operational until 1919.) Taken from the museum website.

Here is a photograph showcasing BITS Pilani in its true colors. Dedicated to my alma mater ...

Got a couple inches or so of wet snow last night, supposedly another 3-5 inches tomorrow night.

Partnering with the Danish Museum of Science and Technology, InfinIT, a Danish network for innovative utilization of IT, Cotter (Laser Cutting Services) and VRKSTEDET (Underbroen) we created a Bits & Beers to kickstart our newest venture - a series of workshops called "From Old Patents to New Prototypes".

Our theme was 'crazy inventions that can change the world' and our speakers included some very special people who have contributed to our world!

Some of the people joining us included:

Jesper Vind, CEO at Future Electric

The company makes state-of-the-art electric motorcycles, with increased maneuverability and acceleration.

Christian Liljedahl: In collaboration with a small team of experts, Christian invented the Pulse Jet Concert, by playing with the pitch of the sound of the pulse jet by changing the length of the pipes. An incredible auditory experience!

Bent Stawski: Specialist in design and manufacturing of advanced scaled mechanical models such as steam trains, steam engines and other mechanical equipment.

Vincent Seremet: Aviation designer and military test pilot with a wide range of aeronautic designs and inventions: gyro-copters, rocketpropelled parachutes, jet packs, phantom wings, etc.

Christian Hansen & Steen Lærke: Specialists in miniature model building. Both scaling, engineering and electrical function associated with advanced model building.

Per Nielsen & Mikkel Posselt: Specialists in combustion engines and can get anything up and running, including the Hammelvogn, built in 1888 by Hans Urban Johansen at the Albert F. Hammels machine factory in Nørrebro.

Finn Helmer: Engineer and previous co-owner of the Electronic company Giga, Finn will talk about startups within inventions, and how to increase your chances of success.

Terje Lade: Manager at Ladeas and developer of the project Vindship, a hybrid merchant vessel for sustainable sea transport.

And a F-16 Jet

The Danish Museum of Science and Technology has a F-16 Jet on loan, and Bits & Beers guests were welcome to get up close and personal, and even sit in the cockpit!

This shop in Ipswich is full of weird and wonderful items. One of these photos was taken with a vintage M42 lens that I purchased for a tenner whilst I was there.

This is Morrisons last surviving ISTOBAL Restyle and it’s a bit worn to be honest, the brushes are starting to become discoloured and the dryer no longer comes down. It also offers a 4th Programme which it is unable to do.

Ride time, Laura Birse on the Kona Coast, Big Island of Hawaii.

I didn't use this as my 365 day challenge, as it was too similar to yesterday's bagpuss. However, as it was still a fairly successful image, i have put it up anyway =)
