The University of Texas School of Public Health, KIPP Schools, the Houston Food Bank and Texas Children's Hospital have partnered to offer the 16-week program to third-grade children enrolled at KIPP Explore Academy and their parents. As you can see from the photos, those healthy kale smoothies are a hit!

Healthy Brownie Bites. As part of our healthy alternatives list, these are our Healthy Brownie Bites. These were prepared and delivered for two different classes as a great healthy alternative to traditional treats. These were simply dusted with a little powdered sugar but could offer many alternative topping options. There are several cake/cupcake options as well. They were a big hit with both the children and the staff. Please contact us for further information about the ingredients or if you have any difficult food allergies that need to be worked around. This is my little tribute series to the puppy we had for less than 2 weeks. Its amazing how attached you can get to such a little thing in such a little time. I've cried several times over him already.

Le porte-avions d'escorte HMS BITER (D97) est de la classe Archer mais muni d'un îlot.
La quille du cargo mixte de type C3 Rio Parana est posée le 28 décembre 1939 par Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Company à Chester en Pennsylvanie. Lancé le 18 décembre 1940, il est réquisitionné le 20mai 1941 et converti jusqu'en avril 1942 à l'Atlantic Basin Iron Works de Brooklyn selon les principes de l'USS Long Island, prototype américain des porte-avions d'escorte américains. Il est classé BAVG-3 (British Auxiliary Carrier) car cédé à la Royal Navy dans le cadre du "Prêt-bail" le 1er avril 1942. Les travaux sont achevés le 1er mai. Après avoir reçu des équipements complémentaires, il est armé le 6 mai 1942 sous le nom de HMS Biter.
Il mesure 150 x 21 m et déplace 15 125 t à pleine charge. Son hélice est entrainée par 2 diesels (total de 9 000 cv) qui lui permettent 16 n. Son autodéfense est de 3 canons de 102 mm, 10 de 20 mm Oerlikon et 6 mitrailleuses de 12,7 mm. Le pont d'envol de 125 x 20 m, couvert de bois, dispose d'une catapulte H2 de 24 m, 9 brins d'arrêt, 3 barrières, un ascenseur de 13 x 10 m qui mène à un petit hangar de 60,6 x 18,6 x 5 à 6 m. Un îlot est installé en déport sur tribord. Il peut embarquer 15 avions (15 Sea Hurricanes et 3 Swordfish en 10/1942). Il dispose d'un radar de veille air Type 79B, un de veille surface type 272. L'équipage est de 555.
Il appareille de New York le 12 juin et arrive à Greenock en Ecosse le 23 juin. Le pont d'envol est allongé à 134,7 m. Sa vie opérationnelle commence en novembre 1942 quand il appareille pour le débarquement en Afrique du Nord. Il escortera 16 convois. Le 21 août 1944, il est affecté comme transport. Il est restitué et prêté à la France le 9 avril 1945, prenant le nom de Dixmude. Mis en réserve le 13 juin 1960, il est restitué à Toulon le 10 juin 1966. Le BAVG-3, rayé des listes depuis le 24 janvier 1951, est remorqué et coulé comme cible par les Américains.
Il est vu ici à Greenock en Ecosse. Sur le roof de l'îlot, la cage du radar Type 272. Sur la plage avant, un canon de 20 mm avec son bouclier et, de part et d'autre, un canon de 102 mm en encorbellement.
