I went up Cowles Mountain yesterday late afternoon. Within my khaki pack back I bring a snake bite kit, flashlight, and some water. I also ware my wide brim hat and sunglasses to keep the bright setting sun out of my eyes... don't want to trip on that rock I can't see or step on the rattlesnake that I can't see. Red Diamond Back rattlesnakes thrive in this terrain. I heard that a lady was bitten recently on one of the trails at Torrey Pines State Park and had to be life flight out. More than likely it was a little Pacific Coast Rattler. Hard to see them sometimes. Some years ago I was running a 10 mile cross country loop through Rose Canyon and San Clemente Canyon on a warm sunny day in December. I saw a Pacific Coast at the last moment in the middle of a dirt utility road and literally jumped over it! About five miles later I was about to cross over a dry rocky stream bed and there was another one right in front of me!

JUST IN CASE
This is what midge bites look like - on me anyway. I won't spoil the illusion by giving details of exactly which part of me this is. I'll let you enjoy guessing.

I'm uploading these for Lisa K. who recently put up a digitally altered image of Eleanora Duse, a personal acting hero of mine.
I love playing with these old photographs. I hope to learn to be able to do more and more with them. I think I made these last Halloween. If you look closely you might see orbs and spooks hanging out in the backgrounds, but you might have to blow them up a bit.
Result of: dog bite
Taken after: ER visit
Most annoying components: the pain; having to clean and repatch several times a day; the incredibly annoying meds that made me super tired and left a yucky taste in my mouth all week; not being able to walk well for several days, not run for several more; getting behind in my step count
Most intriguing component: the enormous size of the resulting bruise
Longest impediment: not being able to cross my legs
Most fortunate component: it's the back of my leg so I don't have to see the scars
And no, I hadn't done anything. I got attacked from behind, I didn't even see any of it, "just" felt it.

BUFFALO – (October 6, 2015) – Buffalo Bills’ Center Eric Wood welcomed over 200 guests to Big Ditch Brewing Company on Monday, October 5, 2015 for his Flights and Bites event, raising more than $35,000 to benefit the Eric Wood Foundation.
The foundation aims to provide seriously ill, special needs and physically challenged children throughout Greater Buffalo with daily encouragement and life-changing experiences. Proceeds from the evening will help fund community outreach programs, such as the E-Zone and Operation Big Santa, in an effort to fulfill the mission of the Eric Wood Foundation.
For one evening only, several Buffalo Bills, including Dan Carpenter, Ronald Darby, Marcell Dareus, Jerome Felton, Jordan Gay, Chris Gragg, Gabe Ikard, Richie Incognito, Matthew Mulligan, Garrison Sanborn, Colton Schmidt and Kraig Urbik, joined Wood and fans in a toast to a unique Monday Night Football experience that featured custom flights of craft brew, Buffalo-inspired bites, cornhole sponsored by Christopher Williams with Northwestern Mutual and live music by Joe Bachman & The Tailgaters to benefit Wood’s cause.
Rob Lederman of Rob’s Comedy Playhouse served as the evening’s emcee and auctioneer during exciting live and silent auctions.

Naya, the otter with the darker color, flirts with her boyfriend, Luani. Wouldn't it be fun to have baby otters?
Todd and I attended the Bluejackets home-opener last weekend. Our walk to the arena from the parking garage was seemingly endless for a recent back surgery patient (even though it was actually the closest parking we've ever had!); and Todd had to take many breaks from his seat to stretch, BUT we were able to get out of the house and cheer on the Bluejackets to an awesome win over the Nashville Predators!! I love the way this guy is biting his tongue in anticipation of the puck dropping! Of course, all of my shots are through the plexi-glass panels, but they're not too bad...you can see some "spots" on the glass; they're either actually something on the glass or a reflection.
The Cheeky Monkey's friend. I missed focus a bit and had to use some extreme settings to balance the noise vs motion blur.
