after charging my camera I turn it on to make sure it's working properly before I head out. frequently, without intention, i like the image that greets me and i'll snap a photo. this is one of those.

I used to spend a bit of time in Marysville for work. Like Beechworth, which always reminds me of Daylesford, Maryville always reminded me of my 'core of my heart' Hepburn Springs.
As sad as seeing what nature can do to the physical watching the town recover not only makes you humble in the face of such resilience but brings to mind how apt Dorothea MacKellar's 'My Country is' - it sums up what it means to be Australian - all you who have not loved her you will not understand.

Did a bit of baking yesterday, so I thought I'd take some photos of the results :)
These were taken using 2 flash units, the main light on the right and a fill on the left - the set up is very simple, using a plain white plate and a table with a sheet of white paper covering it.
About halway through the shoot I attached a shoot through umbrella to the fill light, which softened it quite a bit
Bit more rain and we'll be flooded like the other year.
Couldn't get past the other side of the Charlie Moules without my wellies this morning.
A bit of a different point of view.
The Metropolitan Opera House is located on the east side of Amsterdam Avenue between West 62nd Street and West 65th Street. Its grand facade faces Columbus Avenue and serves as anchor to Lincoln Center and dramatic backdrop to Josie Robertson Plaza. The facade is composed of five barrel-vaulted arches reaching 96 feet in height. The arches rest on six rectilinear concrete columns clad in Roman travertine. Each arch is formed of 35-foot wide pre-cast concrete shells.
The north, south and west elevations are faced with a series of pre-cast concrete fins set vertically, which lend a more textured appearance than the front. A promenade balcony paved in terrazzo sits one level above the plaza. Behind the balcony a second row of travertine-covered columns divide a bronze mullioned glass curtain wall.

With this ISO 100 photo from a Canon 40D the results are less obvious than with the ISO 800 photo from a 450D. 8 bit again is not enough with very obvious posterization artifacts. 9 bits gets very close to the quality of the 14 bit version but I think there is still a small difference which pretty much disappears in the 10 bit file.
The user interface of the Rawnalyze program is rather annoying. The program gives no indication if it accepted my command to reduce the bit depth. So it often leaves me guessing if the program actually did the intended treatment.

Mr.K.K Agrawal, Trustee and Member of Managing Committee was the honorable chief guest for the #IndependenceDay celebration at Modern Early Years, Deepali on Saturday, 11th August.
Sir hoisted the #NationalFlag after which the choir sang the #NationalAnthem and a beautiful patriotic song.
The Chief Guest along with all the dignitaries also planted saplings to mark the occasion as a symbol of #growth and #prosperity.
School principal Ms. Abha Sadana was also present on the occasion to encourage the little ones.
The ballet “#JourneyToFreedom” by K.G. students depicting #Gandhiji, #ChandraShekharAzad, #SarojiniNaidu and numerous freedom fighters reminded us about the various sacrifices made by so many people to attain freedom from the British. The performance was well accepted by all the attending parents.
A show-n-tell activity was also organised for the #Nurserystudents entitled “Respected Indian Personalities” on 14th August. Children came dressed up as #RaniLaxmiBai, #APJAbdulKalam, #PanditJawaharLalNehru and many more. Children recited lines and shared about the personality.
For April Fool's Day 2012, Google rolled out a fun new feature in Google Maps. In addition to globe, satellite, and default map views, you can also select a rendering that looks like every standard adventure game in the 8-bit Nintendo era. The street view is also rendered accordingly.

Bella Cosa. Sounds a bit like some kind of mundane pasta chain - but turns out to be a pretty mind-blowing place for Italian fine dining (which is a thing I have just recently become exposed to). Itâs also a pizzeria. Whatâs the score? Two floors, two different offerings. Upstairs lives the restaurant, with a glass front that offers sky facing views of the city. Here you shall find fascinating things - The Wine Room: which sits 14 and does exactly what it says on the label. If I ran this place Iâd call in âThe Wine Porn Roomâ, but as you can tell, nobodyâs let me run a fine dining restaurant yet (and they have their reasons...). On the subject of wine, you probably wouldnât expect it, but Iâm gonna put it out there and say that Bella Cosa have one of THE most comprehensive Italian wine lists in the city - each of Italyâs 21 winemaking regions is represented to one extent or another. They also have an extensive selection of grappa, including an amarone grappa which is, without a doubt, the best grappa I have ever tried.
Downstairs is where you find the pizzeria (with its stone ovens) and the central bar. Thereâs a bit theyâre calling âThe Chefâs Isleâ where you can watch Bella Cosaâs chefs doing their thing in the open kitchen. Kinda like Benihana but I suppose with less culinary theatre. Downstairs stays open a little later than upstairs, closing at 23:00 Monday to Sunday - last orders on dinner upstairs are at 22:00. As you can see, theyâve taken to celebrating alcohol in its many forms by using old Italian beer glasses as vases for flowers, and enshrining expensive bottles of cognac and champagne on the walls. Downstairs also has a âliving wallâ - made up of what looks like ivy or something related to it. Green walls are the shit, in this writerâs humble opinion. Another thing I should probably mention is that if youâre interested in the Italian craft beer movement, these guys have a very large and exciting selection. Head back upstairs to the âartisan beer cornerâ to see what I mean.
One last thing to mention is Bella Cosaâs head chef Kentaro Torii (who by, all accounts, is a pretty talented guy) has had his say on everything from the interior design of the building (though the actual design can be credited to a chap called Francesco Pizza) and the style of the plates used with each dish. Is that a Japanese name you hear? Yes indeed it is. Kentaro was born in Yokohama, but early on developed an obsession with Italian culture and food that saw him emigrate to Florence, where he absorbed the language, the culture and the cooking. He later moved to Sardinia and focused on seafood, before stints in other parts of Italy, and eventually the Micronesian island of Saipan (yup). What do you get with this guy? Presumably, Italian soul and Japanese efficiency. And now heâs in Canary Wharfâs South Quay and weâre very happy to have him...

Automatisierte Zeichenmaschinen
Wer sich letzte Woche im Foyer der Holzstraße über die miteinanderverzahnten raumgreifenden Scheiben wunderte, dem wird an dieser Stelle nun die Auflösung geboten: Bei dem beeindruckenden, aber arachisch wirkenden Konstrukt handelte sich um eine automatisierte Zeichenmaschine, die mit Little-Bits-Komponenten gebaut wurde und grafische Markierungen auf Papier hinterlässt. Littlebits wiederum sind elektronische Bausteine, die magnetisch mit einander verbunden variable Lösungen ermöglichen. Input- und Outputmodule werden durch Stromzufuhr, Regler und Sensoren ergänzt und ermöglichen so ohne Programmierung individuelle Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten. Das Seminar »Random Lines« unter der Leitung von Prof. Anna-Lisa Schönecker und Benjamin Knichel nutzt Littlebits um eigenwillige Maschinen zu konstruieren, die automatisierte Zeichenserien erstellen.
