At the end of the school year I treat myself to a Brunch at the Explorer Hotel. And they have the most beautiful (and delicious) dessert table. So some Photos of FOOD!
Bit of a frosty morning this morning, but the light was nice so we dashed out to get some pictures. It was very cold indeed and I've not been well, so Hazel and I huddled round a cup of tea to warm up when we came in!
I really like the oldtimer cars in the LEGO Shanghai Chase set, but unfortunately they are far too big to fit with my minifig scale cars. Time to build something a little bit smaller. This is one of those models that may look straightforward, but that cost hours of fiddling and trial-and-error to get right.
Oof, was THIS a bit of a trial!
When I went to my first convention in 2017 I ended up running into & buying a rare but well priced international only My Scene Chelsea I'd had my eye on for years for my Birthday so when I ran into this #MySceneRockinAwards Chelsea last month it immediately made me think of that time given all the similarities.
I wanted her BADLY but she'd popped up right before con tickets went on sale - which was a day before my then coming payday - so I simply put her on my watch list and told myself that if she was still there after I at least attempted to get to the con that I'd buy her as a birthday treat. I didn't expect her to last for me but luck was on my side so I scooped her up & paid before leaving for work.
Flying in all the way from Mexico the estimated delivery time was the day before my birthday at the earliest & the 15th of May at the latest. I knew by my birthday was a long shot so I wasn't bummed but the lack of scans between getting to the US & delivery attempt #1 was TORTURE! As well was her not getting to me yesterday because of an error at the post office but all is well now and I couldn't be more happy with her (these eyes are so even I feel like she's s my scene unicorn & what could be a disastrous lip rub perfectly accentuates her sculpt) so - much like last time - I'm taking that as a good omen for the con this year too 😉
Undoubtedly one of the best buses I ever bought. EDJ 242J had been in preservation, but unfortunately for its owners at the time had to be moved on. Their loss however was Knotty Bus's gain as this ex St. Helens / Merseybus / Speak Airport Marshall bodied AEC Swift was in first class condition all round. In no time at all it was painted into a similar scheme to that which we see here on sister bus GEM 598N and was placed into service. I recall it being 100% reliable until it was sadly lost in a great garage fire in the mid 1990s.
The Bristol RE on the right was ex PMT JEH 197K which I'd bought from a local independent. It had a seized Leyland 680 engine and it had been my plan to fit an AEC 691 to replicate a factory option which Bristol planned.
Going off at a bit of a tangent, rumour has it that St. Helens Corporation wanted a further batch of AEC Swifts, but Leyland refused to supply them and a cancelled order of Bristol RESLs (as per 197 here) from PMT were sold to them instead.
I waited in for 5 hours, for a home delivery that never arrived!.
I had planned to go out but had to reduce my shopping and browsing outing to a trip to the local Tesco.
For me going out is about being seen and making contact with people to make Trans a seen thing for whomever I come across, in this case the girl at the checkout. I have come across her before, in fact I think most of the checkout boys and girls in my local Tesco have met me now!
I am going out tomorrow, end of week treat for me. I am also looking forward to next week, a couple of trips out; a makeup lesson with a local friend, and then a trip into town to the office! The rest of the week will be gardening and house jobs.
Nothing like a bit of variety as DB Cargo's Class 60, 60044 "Dowlow" works the Arpley-Tunstead-Lostock Works-Arpley limestone circuit for about the 152nd consecutive time (or at least it feels like it!).
60044 accelerates past Northwich Station Junction with the empty hoppers on 6H02 09:30 Arpley Sidings to Tunstead Sidings, having crawled across the rickety viaduct at the mandatory 20 mph.
This shot took a bit of practice....! My brother actually came up with the idea of sticking his iPhone and later, his Canon, into the eye of a set of binoculars which can only be described as a hybrid binocular/telescope. They are too large to carry, and rest on a giant tripod with rollers. Suffice to say- the thing is massive! However, the weight and size seem worth it once you see through them on a clear night and find your first nebula, galaxy, whale, or dolphin! Distant moons can be seen from other parts of our solar system as well if their orbit is in sync- Jupiter, Saturn, and mars (no moons with mars though!), and many other stellar phenomena can be seen, it's really amazing! I've looked for hours...
Anyways, my brothers brilliant idea took some patience but we've been doing it ever since with video, iPhones, canons, whatever..., and it never gets old!
This is my favorite iPhone moon shot, taken in spring of this year using camera+. I vignetted and added about 45-50% HDR within the camera+ app. I usually throw in a cocktail of editing tools, but this seemed so perfect as it was I didn't want to botch it up! :)
Bit of an amalgamation of some previous shots. Bit of backlighting, bokeh and smoke.
Flash on stand behind my head on lowest power at 128mm. Exhale of vape before the shutter opened with the fibre optic lp brush in the foreground. Took quite a number of similar shots with different points of focus. This one was my fave with everything out of focus. Bit of a tinker in lightroom et voila.
This is number 106 of my 365.
a bit of an artistic picture now, haha.
The RL8 is packed with a compact V8 as a powertrain, producing not as much horsepower as the Venozis RL7, but the radiator has moved upwards in order to catch better the air provided by the roof and that has increased the cooling efficiency significantly. It's like the RL8's got a 8th generation Intel I5 processor, while the RL7 has a 7th one Intel I7.
But why a V8, instead of a Boxer? Well, the joint project agreements involved the engine type choice aswell, and this is the setup we chose for our rides. The RL8 will also be the second model of the line to feature RWD instead of AWD, just like it's grandfather Asphalt RL4 (which has also been born on a circustance of a joint project with Alex B).
