These are fragments of the Blue Guard house. The piece in the center represents the Tsar's crown. The Blue Guard was a civilian volunteer unit formed in the 18th century to guard prominent citizens of Riga.

Elizabeth finds the large bundle of holiday scrap material and sorts for the perfect pieces for her 2016 holiday crafts. In the chair at the table is "Katie" - Maddy-the-owner's 8 year old daughter, ready to participate in Saturday's craft class. One could assume Elizabeth will be sitting at the "Kiddie Table"....

Bit of an experimental one as I woke up too early. Decided to have a play in Photoshop with some heavier post and a little comping using 2 diff exposures. Bit OTT, few areas could do with tweaking but overall reasonably happy with the end result. Need to find the time and patience to spend an hour or two on one shot.

Bit of a frosty morning this morning, but the light was nice so we dashed out to get some pictures. It was very cold indeed and I've not been well, so Hazel and I huddled round a cup of tea to warm up when we came in!

It's taken a bit, about 2 years tbh to finally track down a long eared owl in Saddleworth, plenty of leg work just no owl in the past.

A great way to start 2023, but pretty sure the owl will differ as it was just trying to avoid getting too wet today.

Bit of an appreciation post, I absolutely love the AT-RT walker, its definitely in my top three vehicles in Star Wars! Also, if you look closely, you'll notice the extra greebling I've added to the blaster cannon on the front too. Sorry about having some freaky plain minifig without prints or anything, but I didn't want to ruin the pic with my horrible editing skills!

An unremarkable bit of countryside near Whitson, on the outskirts of Newport (Mon). Off left of this view were the muddy expanses and seaweed-covered boulders of the Severn estuary. The trees, I thought, made an elegant grouping. I always find tree identification difficult, but I think these would have been some kind of willow. One imagined the glimmering effect, on windy days, when the leaves are tossed about and their silvery undersides are exposed to the light. This area used to be dominated by the Llanwern steelworks; I believe they still exist in a much reduced form, but I didn't see a single glimpse of them in driving around. Admittedly observation is difficult from these country roads at a time of year when the verges and hedges pullulate with greenery.

I waited in for 5 hours, for a home delivery that never arrived!.

I had planned to go out but had to reduce my shopping and browsing outing to a trip to the local Tesco.

For me going out is about being seen and making contact with people to make Trans a seen thing for whomever I come across, in this case the girl at the checkout. I have come across her before, in fact I think most of the checkout boys and girls in my local Tesco have met me now!

I am going out tomorrow, end of week treat for me. I am also looking forward to next week, a couple of trips out; a makeup lesson with a local friend, and then a trip into town to the office! The rest of the week will be gardening and house jobs.

Bit by bit I am getting used to my new combination DC-G9 + 100-400.

Here I did choose a vertical composition, as the bird was watching my way.

However, still a lot to practice and adjust settings.

But after only 3 shootings, I'm already a very content guy.

Cheers, Jurgen.

A good bit of variety this morning! Shame I wasn't here in time for some of Acklams' newest - I'm sure the other folk will cover that neatly today. Now that newer generations and models are coming out, the second-hand Caetano Levante is beginning to make an appearance on the independent scene, as the Plaxtons before them did. And in this instance, it's a case of the apple not falling too far from the tree. Here, we have a former Go North East National Express coach! We have one of our own down at Anlaby Road now, too! I suppose these here sell for quite the pretty penny to independent operators...

Parked up and awaiting it's turn on rail replacement from Hull Interchange is Blue Sky Coaches of Leeds' BF63 ZPV, a 2013 Volvo B9R Caetano Levante 2 new to Go North East for their National Express coaching arm as their 7105, later sold to Glen Valley Tours of Wooler (I've been there!) but briefly going on loan to Parks of Hamilton for PSVAR work before winding up at Blue Sky Coaches.

Bit of a mouthful for such a small creature.

R730.36.A4.

A bit outside of its usual territory! It is questionable as to whether a vehicle of this size will be able to operated on this route, as I believe there have been a few teething problems regarding fitting it round the streets today, especially around the Thornwood/Broomhill areas!

Bit of a ligthweight tow, but still worth calling in at the Cricklewood canteen for a cuppa!

This shot took a bit of practice....! My brother actually came up with the idea of sticking his iPhone and later, his Canon, into the eye of a set of binoculars which can only be described as a hybrid binocular/telescope. They are too large to carry, and rest on a giant tripod with rollers. Suffice to say- the thing is massive! However, the weight and size seem worth it once you see through them on a clear night and find your first nebula, galaxy, whale, or dolphin! Distant moons can be seen from other parts of our solar system as well if their orbit is in sync- Jupiter, Saturn, and mars (no moons with mars though!), and many other stellar phenomena can be seen, it's really amazing! I've looked for hours...

Anyways, my brothers brilliant idea took some patience but we've been doing it ever since with video, iPhones, canons, whatever..., and it never gets old!

This is my favorite iPhone moon shot, taken in spring of this year using camera+. I vignetted and added about 45-50% HDR within the camera+ app. I usually throw in a cocktail of editing tools, but this seemed so perfect as it was I didn't want to botch it up! :)

A bit of a fun edit tonight with an OOB (Out of Bounds) mixing it up and keeping it real! ;) lol

Had this image for ages sat on the hard drive and was disappointed that it wasn't as good as I thought at the time, I expected a bit more from it when I saw it on the camera screen and was so pleased at the time I took it, but it wasn't to be when viewed on the laptop, low light and high iso didn't help! :(

It was taken on the River Plym whilst I was up to the rim of me wellies waiting for whatever may come along in the way of wildlife, I was rather cold and had slipped off a rock so one wellie had been full of water at one point and I had to ring me sock out (no that's not a euphemism) on the river bank, the hours drifted by as did the driftwood when all of a sudden this little fellow popped up right in front of me, well I couldn't believe my luck I had never been so close to one of these in my life, panic set in but I did manage to get off a couple of quick snaps before he dived down in search for his fish supper...and so the day ended! :)
