This is a photo that luck played into some bad and some good; the bad was I killed my battery in my truck, but had the good fortune of witnessing these two love birds.
Decided to head over to Shingle Creek late this afternoon to see if I could capture a few images of my Barred Owl friends. After walking about ½ mile along the creek I began hearing an owl (actually I think it was 3 owls) west of the trail in the cypress swamp. I began to hike in that direction but it was not long before I was into the mud and water. All of the rain we have had recently has the area much more flooded than normal. Fortunately I was far enough that I was able to see one of the owl perched on a nearby branch. He sat there quite patiently as I carefully moved around the area trying to get a better angle, framing, and a pleasing background.

This adult Bald Eagle landed on a frozen Fox River stayed a few minutes and took off, for a nice photo opportunity.
I had some fun doing a couple of filmstrips this afternoon, using a Gimp tutorial in the Learning Gimp group. I couldn't get it quite right but managed to improvise.
Had the most awesome day at Claire Carter and Hawkeye Bird of Prey Photography Workshop in Thoresby Park. A privilege to get close to such beautiful birds and I learned such a lot about bird photography that I hope I can put in to practice in future. My photos (just a few here out of 100s I took today) are pale imitations of what is achievable but I'm happy with (some of) my efforts with limited kit.
