Wallace's Standardwing Bird of Paradise (Semioptera wallacei) male at his display site in the rain forest canopy, Halmahera, Indonesia.

This species was discovered by and named after Alfred Russel Wallace.

A massive strangler fig (Ficus sp.) in the lowland rain forest of Fergusson Island, Papua New Guinea. This tree bears a strong resemblance to the tree illustrated in Wallace's Malay Archipelago.

I was elated to of found this ant racing to indulge himself in sugary sap oozing from this Birds of Paradise flower.

Twelve-wired Bird of Paradise (Seleucidis melanoleuca) male displaying to a female at his display pole in the swamp rain forest at Nimbokrang, Papua, Indonesia, Island of New Guinea. He is using his unusual wire-like feathers to brush the female in the face.

Sort of steampunk-ish! How cool.

The first cruise since December 2019 due to Covid 19, we visited familiar places along the California coast for 7 days. Tried to capture some unusual pictures. Enjoy.
