Unlike so many other birds, it is said that most raptors don’t serenade at mating time. There are apparently exceptions to every rule, however, and so this elegant bird of prey has been most appropriately named the Eastern Chanting Goshawk. The male is noted to chant or sing from a high perch at mating time. This African accipiter, like so many birds of prey, will generally choose perches on one of the highest spots in an area. It makes the job of hunting easier but also makes the bird easy to see. #EasternChantingGoshawk

The adult male African paradise flycatcher is about 17 cm long, but the very long tail streamers double this. It has a black head, neck and underparts, and chestnut wings and tail. There is a prominent white wingbar. The female has a browner tint to the underparts and lacks the wingbar and tail streamers. Young birds are similar to the female but duller.

Beautiful sunbirds are tiny, only 10 cm (4 in) long, although the breeding male's long tail adds another 5 cm (2 in). They have medium-length thin down-curved bills and brush-tipped tubular tongues, both of which are adaptations to their nectar feeding. The male has a black head, bright metallic green upper parts, scarlet breast bordered with yellow and black belly. The central feathers of the teal are greatly elongated. The female is brown above with yellowish underparts.
