For more than 12,000 years it has lived with humans as a hunting companion, protector, object of scorn or adoration, and friend.
The dog evolved from the gray wolf into more than 400 distinct breeds. Human beings have played a major role in creating dogs that fulfill distinct societal needs.
While out photographing waterbirds, I came across this striking individual — a leucistic Greylag Goose (Anser anser). Unlike its normally plumaged companion in the background, this goose displays an almost entirely white plumage due to a genetic condition known as leucism.
Leucism causes a partial or total loss of pigment in feathers, but unlike albinism, it doesn’t affect the eyes — notice the dark eye and normally colored bill. These individuals are quite rare, with only a handful of cases reported among thousands of birds, making it a very special encounter.
Seeing this elegant bird gliding across the water alongside its more typical counterpart was a powerful reminder of nature’s diversity and unpredictability. Moments like these are why I love bird photography.

This is one of my favorite photos of this species. Not for the pose or the frame or light as such.
More because of what is in the photo. This girls was in the middle of a very busy preening session so the photo contains a floating feather she plucked out as well as a fair bit of feather dust floating around her. It was such a calm morning it just seem to hang in the air.
Red-winged parrot (Female). Aprosmictus erythropterus
Both sexes have bright red wings and a bright green body. The male birds have a black nape, lower blue back and rump with a yellow tip on their tail, an orange bill and grey feet. The female birds have a yellowish-green body and the wings have red and pink trimmings. Also distinguishing the females are dark irises and the lower back is a light blue colour. Juveniles have orange/yellow beaks and pale brown irises, and otherwise resemble females in colouration. Males develop adult plumage at about the age of two years and females at the age of about a year and a half.
The courtship display of the Red-winged Parrot is very colourful: the male circles the favoured female, then lowers his wings to expose the blue patch on his lower back, which is usually hidden. He holds his feathers close to his body and contracts his pupils.

Juvenile Bald Eagle - Came upon this gorgeous Juvenile while driving home last week. Of course I had to yell to Guy to pull over and while it’s not a perfect shot, wishing it was all in focus but I had no time to switch settings I am actually loving the side view as it flies away after I spooked it trying to sneak around the car.

The Greater Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) is a large grouse with a chubby, round body, small head, and long tail. Males change shape dramatically when they display, becoming almost spherical as they puff up their chest, droop their wings, and fan their tail into a starburst.
