Tiny, active, warbler-like bird of tropical and subtropical forest edge, woodland, and gardens. Feeds on nectar and fruit, and in some areas visits bird feeders. Variable plumage across range, especially in the Caribbean, but always note small size and sharp, slightly decurved bill. Most populations have a bold white eyebrow and yellow underparts. Throat color varies from pale gray on mainland (Mexico to South America) to white on some island populations (including Cozumel) or sooty gray (Greater Antilles). Some birds in the Lesser Antilles are entirely black. Song is variable across range but usually high-pitched and scratchy.

Juvenile herring gulls typically have mottled brown and gray plumage with dark eyes, and they lack the distinctive white and gray coloring of adult herring gulls. They are often seen near coastal areas, scavenging for food and learning to fend for themselves. As they mature, their plumage gradually changes, and they acquire the characteristic white and gray feathers of adult herring gulls. Juvenile herring gulls may be seen accompanied by adult birds, learning important behaviors and skills for survival.

Esta bella ave habita desde el sur de EEUU hasta toda Sudamérica . Principalmente se la encuentra en humedales y lagunas donde se alimenta metiendo su pico de forma de cuchara en el barro en busca de insectos, larvas , moluscos y peces. Es muy vistosa por su color rosa y su particular pico.

Those chirpy birds all over the trees across the central and southern US this time of year are not necessarily sparrows! They may be the very common Yellow-rumped Warbler, which winters all across the southern and central US. In the spring and summer they move north, all the way to Alaska and northern Canada!
So look up when you hear those chirps and be on the lookout for a little yellow in their feathers!
I quite liked the striped multicolored background behind this Northern Hawk Owl. She has since moved on to new hunting grounds. Sure glad I got to see her before she left.
