En una reunión que se celebró el 2 de febrero de 1971 en la ciudad iraní de Ramsar, a orillas del mar Caspio, un grupo de 18 países firmó un histórico tratado internacional para la acción nacional y la cooperación internacional en la conservación y el uso racional de los humedales y sus recursos.
En esta ocasión, la campaña para el año 2021 destaca la contribución de los humedales a la cantidad y calidad del agua dulce en nuestro planeta.

“Penguin love”
Pingüino de El Cabo / Cape Penguin (Spheniscus demersus)
La mañana anterior habíamos llegado a Ciudad del Cabo después de un largo viaje en avión. Estuvimos visitando la ciudad y su puerto, pero también recibimos una mala noticia: debido a las malas condiciones climáticas, no íbamos a poder navegar el día siguiente en busca del gran tiburón blanco, cada vez más difícil de ver en esta zona por los ataques de orcas. Para sustituir esa actividad, decidimos organizar una ruta hacia el Cabo de Buena Esperanza. Antes de llegar al mismo, visitamos una colonia de pingüinos de El Cabo, donde pudimos disfrutar de escenas como la que se ve en esta foto.

Tiny colorful bird with short stubby bill, bright red patch on rump, and entirely white eyebrow. Note that the very front of the eyebrow is white (compare Striated Pardalote). Upperparts, including crown, primarily black covered in white spots. Plumage has minor variations across range. In some locations has yellow throat and/or rump. Voice is a very clear and repetitive double "ding". Very common in woodlands and eucalypt forest within its range, which covers most of Australia. Makes small nest burrows in soil banks.
This was an old crow that I saw whilst visiting Marwell Zoo a couple of years ago. I really like how old and wise it looked, as well as the shape and textures of its feathers after it had ruffled them.
An Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) takes flight from a moss-covered chalk cliff, carrying a beak full of dried grass and vegetation for its burrow. This shot captures the frantic energy of the nesting season, highlighting the bird's iconic, colourful beak and vibrant orange webbed feet against the rugged, textured backdrop of the coastal rock face.
For some unknown reason, the EXIF data has not come through with the shot.
I used my Nikon D850 F5.6 ISO 200, WB auto, Sigma 150-600mm lens. Taken at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, Yorkshire.

Yetapá de Collar - eBird
Es una especie endémica de los Esteros del Iberá del noreste de Argentina y del este de Paraguay. Prefiere pastizales inundados con pastos altos y no perturbados. Su población está considerada como vulnerable debido a la creación de campos de pastoreo para el ganado.

Territorio
El yetapá de collar si bien no es una especie perseguida por el humano como otras aves, pero silenciosamente está perdiendo muchas poblaciones por el avance de la forestación y por la pérdida de los pastizales naturales. Aquí hay que tener en cuenta que los tamaños de los territorios son importantes. “Los pájaros iguales al yetapá de collar necesitan tres o cuatro hectáreas para hacer sus despliegues aéreos y para mantener territorio donde puede haber varias hembras. Es un pájaro que necesita terreno. Vos multiplicas tres a cuatro hectáreas por 7 o 10 machos y te das cuenta que necesitas un campo grande de pastizales en buen estado de conservación. Tanto las forestaciones como la ganadería intensiva afectan su territorio”
