Golden-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla)
Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary, Saanich, BC
A bit of polish on the beak before a photo session... looking good!
Can you tell from this photo whether the little bird is a Goldfinch, a Pine Warbler or something else? It's about five inches long. In this shot it's standing on a perch jutting out from a suet block. I suspect it really wants the kinds of seeds I usually put out rather than the suet, though. My feeders ran out of seeds this morning.
Thank you for your visit. I'd appreciate any ID suggestions you have.

A colony (gaggle) of Ross' Geese (Anser rossii), migrating from the north for the winter months, block a road at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge in the central San Joaquin Valley of California. The Ross' goose is a small white goose with black primary feathers. They are among the first to annually leave their breeding grounds in Canada. The California Central Valley is currently their main wintering area. They feed on grasses, sedges and small grains, particularly waste wheat and barley in the winter months.
The species is named in honor of Bernard R. Ross, a Hudson's Bay Company factor at Fort Resolution in Canada's Northwest Territories.
The darker-colored geese in the front of this colony are called "Specklebellies." These Pacific White-fronted Geese (Anser albifrons) are a native North American goose species.
THIS IS NATURE AT ITS ABSOLUTE EXTREME BEST...IF YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN THIS, YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF ONE OF THE VERY FEW
(I can tell you that I captured this amazing image no more than 30 ft. in front of these geese, worried every second that I would make a sudden noise and see the birds scatter before I got the shot.)

(Sturnus vulguris) I spent the morning down on the Dorset coast with the aim of photographing Starlings and House Sparrows among lobster pots.
I think this image is a marmite shot in that some people will like it and some will not, but I like it and I hope you do too!
a passerine bird in the tyrant-flycatcher family. It breeds from southwest Oregon and California south through Central and South America. It occurs year-round throughout most of its range and migrates less than the other birds in its genus though its northern populations are partially migratory. Six subspecies are commonly recognized although two are occasionally combined as a separate species, the white-winged phoebe.
I love this photo but havent figured out what to do with it :/
feel free to use it in your artwork! :)

[Wikipedia]

We watched this pair of birds from quite close, they were massive, not sure if rooks, ravens or crows?
