Final version of my binary clock. The original design had the PIC chip controlling the display and doing the timekeeping, however, this was unreliable and the clock gained about a minute a week. This design uses a realtime clock chip and the PIC chips reads the time from it every second over I2C, this has the advantage of being able to use a backup batery to keep the time even when the power is disconnected, although I am not using this feature in this circuit.

Binary Clock stepping to midnight. Driven by my Electronic Master Clock.
The video starts with the clock at 23:59 58 seconds then steps to midnight, all digit indicators at zero then continues to 00:00 32.
The chime is driven by my master Clock as is the pulse on each min and 30secs to drive the 30second slaves.

The FEIT (Building 11) is part of the new constructions that have revitalised the western gateway to Sydney’s CBD.
It is a massive investment in the future of education & research, with the ability to accommodate up to 5,000 students & staff.
The 12 level, 44,000 sq. metre building is cloaked in a shimmering aluminium veil.
The angled semi-transparent facade that envelops the building is made up of aluminium sheets containing binary code patterns.
At night the facade is lit by a myriad of green LED’s providing an impressive light display.
A crevasse-like horizontal and vertical atrium runs through the entire building, providing natural light and pedestrian access via bridge links.
An Escher-like series of stairways connect the two sides of the building.
Unusually, the building has no formal ceilings and has a raised floor system to contain all the building services, including air conditioning.
This gives the building design an industrial element with exposed concrete.
A tree-lined arcade provides a ‘green’ link between Building 11 & Building 10, and features a cafe.
FEIT is a ‘living lab’ with sensors placed throughout its structure to provide ‘realtime’ data on it’s performance including energy production & consumption, and rainwater collection.
The building features nine classrooms, two large tiered theatres, and a 3D Data Arena.
State of the art labs provide high-tech learning & research facilities in aerodynamics, software development, and dynamics & mechanics.
FEIT features a sustainable design, with roof-mounted wind turbines, and solar panels to generate electricity for heating & cooling.
The facade of the building provides natural lighting that reduces energy costs by up to 15%.
The provision of numerous stairways encourages less usage of lifts.

My oldest and youngest in a very Black and White picture. The photo was taken at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Brisbane. They are sitting in an interactive art display designed for children.

A new intervalometer for taking time lapses.
The old one was just too big and bulky (It was also never documented). This new one fits inside an Altoids tin, a popular project enclosure for many makers and hobbyists alike.
To set your interval, simply set the 8 dip switches, each representing a single bit in a byte, to the desired interval time in seconds represented in binary.
Maximum interval = 255 seconds (4 minutes, 15 seconds)
Based on a Atmega328 microcontroller (Arduino).
Written with a minute 139 lines of code.
This was in my face for two and half hours on the train from Amsterdam to Brussels. I tried to work out what number this would be in binary, but it made my brain hurt.
I felt that after uploading the photos, I did not do the scene justice unless I had the music with it. So I put together the photos and music and got you this little video for your enjoyment. Maybe one day I will do a stopmotion version of this...
