Plenty of uphill ahead. This track's pretty mean in terms of climbing, but after about two and a half hours of mostly climbing, we were treated to a nice long downhill section down to the Cardrona Pub.

Scavenger Challenge - 10. How or what do you recycle? Make it look good!

on the cycle track by the river I found a drink container that had been thrown away - after my shot I through it in the recycle bin

Glad I had to be out early that morning coz I saw a lot of the snow before it got too messed up. Less slippery cycling on the unridden bits.

Very hard to fight the urge to stop and build snowmen though. Only one snowball thrown by kids hit me while I was cycling.

Thredbo Valley Track, Kosciuszko National Park

Looking towards the Queenscliff lighthouse and Port Phillip Bay with Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula in the background. The sand is easy to ride on when the tide goes out and you can ride nearly all the way to Queenscliff on the sand or the bike trail from Point Lonsdale.

Went for a ride from Eltham N. to Diamond Creek via the bike path. One problem, the bridge at Eltham N. park was down. The detour up Wattle Tree road was an unexpected hill climb. Rode into DC, went and re-photographed my old PS. Last did this in 2008 and boy had it changed. A lot more buildings but less open space.

Lyons Outdoor Games 2009

Lyons, Colorado

Normally I'm not in favour of this sort of thing at all, but this is a bit different. Our countryside ranger, Iwan, and a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers are creating a proper bike track. So far they've collected an absolute mountain of scrap metal, cleared large areas of rubbishy scrub, sycamore etc, created wonderful fences woven of skinny branches and drawn up plans for something pretty wonderful. Next step is to grub up the stumps.

The site's best trees have been kept, like a big old oak and some spindly birches.

Taking a quick rest... you can see by this point we're among some Spaniards, which at high speed were quite exciting to dodge round. Think of them as a clump of green kitchen knives and you're pretty close to how tyre-friendly they are :)

After a short biketrack and about half an hour of hiking, we were greeted by this lovely sheep. Hochgolling, Austria

The ground here was a) steep and b) about as grippy as rhubarb crumble.

Plenty of visual drama with the clouds zipping across the Central Otago tussock covered mountains.

Plenty of wind pushing the clouds too! - We had a few fun descents in strong crosswinds.... tilting the bike against the wind seemed to work.

The Parenzana or Porečanka is one of the nicknames of a defunct narrow gauge railway (operating between 1902 and 1935) between Trieste and Poreč (at that time Parenzo, hence the name Parenzana), in present-day Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

The railway followed a meandering course across the Istrian countryside, with skilfully engineered embankments and viaducts negotiating the peninsula’s notoriously up-and-down terrain.

The process of converting the former track into a foot- and cycle-path was begun in 2006, with a highly scenic 60km section of the railway (“Parenzana I”) in central Istria receiving most of the initial attention. Tunnels and bridges along the route were restored and made safe for visitors. A second phase (“Parenzana II”), revitalizing the stretch from Vižinada, 10km southwest of Motovun, to Poreč, was completed in 2012.

Great to have this as part of the airport precinct.

"if I'm REALLY still they won't see me."

My friend Andy was convinced he was dead because he was so still. I had to poke the little fellow to prove he wasn't. Don't worry, I was gentle.
