"Once there were three small islands in this part of the river. Fatima Island, with its stone bank built in 1901, now stands alone - its banks slowly eroding into the mudflats.
In 1951, hundreds of Catholics made a rosary crusade to the riverbank in homage to the Portuguese Pilgrim Statue Our Lady of Fatima. The island has been called Fatima Island ever since."

Near the end of the climbing, about to descend a very nice long downhill section to the pub, via cow-pats, a few more spaniards, and some pretty awesome single track adrenaline fun!
