This was the first McDonald's restaurant of this type in the Netherlands. Initially used to be very small with a surface of only 125 square meters (called T125), a tiny dining room and only one window drive-thru. Built in the year 1996 when McDonald's had the idea that in the Netherlands there was potential for at least 500 stores including very small stores, drive-only stores and McExpress units. Soon after the opening of this and some other small sized McDonald's dropped this idea and the 500 stores never became reality. Not much later this store got a bigger dining room and a two window Drive-Thru to handle the traffic.

An Officer Big Mac jailhouse with a mouth/burger/jail for kinds to climb-into. It was part of the 1970s era "Mcdonaldand" playgrounds. This one is on display at a McDonalds in Calexico, California.
This McDonald's is located just off the A20 highway (exit 16 Capelle a/d IJssel / Prins Alexander) and near the Alexandrium Mall.
The other McDonald's restaurant featuring a Drive-Thru in Capelle opened two years earlier: McDonald's Capelle Rhijnspoor.

The Golden Arches weren't actually lit up here, since the restauarant was closed for renovations, I just used a 4-second exposure.
It didn't occur to me last night, but the orange plastic-wrapped McDonald's restaurant is almost like some kind of weird Christo artwork.

On a particulary unsuccessful day of urban exploration... the old barracks I found in google earth had been demolished, so was the home for difficult children, the panorama I tried to shoot on the old cemetry was wrecked by permanently changing light (sun and clouds), and the industrial building I had on my radar was simply unaccessible - oh and I almost forgot about the thunderstorm...
so we went for some burgers and I eventually took some pictures...

An einem besonders erfolglosem Tag eines 'Explorers'... die alte Kaserne die ich in Google Earth gefunden hatte war bereits abgerissen worden, ebenso das Heim für schwer erziehbare Kinder, die Panoramaaufnahme die ich auf dem alten Friedhof machen wollte wurde durch ständig wechselnde Lichtverhältnisse (Sonne und Wolken) kaputt gemacht und das Industriegebäude das ich noch im Visir hatte war schlicht unzugänglich - achja und fast hätte ich noch den Platzregen vergessen...
also gingen wir Burger essen und ich habe am Ende doch noch ein paar Bilder gemacht.
Since it's McDonald's 40th anniversary in Germany, they give away a free BigMac in a shiny golden box with every McMenu for a short period of time.
McDonald's Muntbergweg Amsterdam | Side-by-Side Drive-Thru
Since early April 2011 McDonald's Amsterdam Muntbergweg has a two lane Drive-Thru ("side-by-side" system) which allows faster service than one point for taking orders. Taking orders is the most time consuming operation in a Drive-Thru and for better service time this is the solution. It seems that McDonald's is implementing this system wherever possible. After McDonald's Hoofddorp (the first one in the Netherlands: view ), also McDonald's Veenendaal (view), Amersfoort (view) and Lelystad have this type of Drive-Thru already.
The renewed McDrive came together with the refurbishment of the exterior of this McDonald's restaurant.

Also McDonald's restaurant Doetinchem is one from the first generation McDrives in the Netherlands but now remodelled to the latest standards of McDonald's Europe.
Located along the A18 at exit 4 (N317), Doetinchem-Oost.
The parking of this restaurant is a combination with a P&R ("park and ride") and therefor always full which feels not very welcome. The polesign of this restaurant is still the good old red sign with the golden arches. Soon these signs will be McHistory.

In 2013 the long expected opening of McDonald's in Nijkerk became reality. I know that there were plans for a McDonald's along the A28 for more than 10 to 15 years. The logistics center for the supply of McDonald's in the Netherlands is located in Nijkerk. Franchisee of this restaurant is Anke Gerrits. When this restauant opened in the Summer of 2013 it was the 235th McDonald's in the Netherlands and the 149th featuring a Drive-Thru.

The Mackinac Bridge is currently a toll bridge on Interstate 75 (I-75). Prior to the coming of I-75, the bridge carried US Highway 27 (US 27). It is one of only three segments of I-75 that are tolled, the others being the American half of the International Bridge near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Alligator Alley in Florida. The current toll is $4.00 for automobiles and $5.00 per axle for trucks. The Mackinac Bridge Authority recently raised the toll to fund a $300 million renovation program, which would include completely replacing the bridge deck.
Every Labor Day, two of the lanes of the bridge are closed to traffic and open to walkers for the Mackinac Bridge Walk.

This McDonald's was the first McDonald's in the Netherlands featuring a Drive-Thru (named McDrive in this part of the world). When it opened this restaurant was overcrowded and there was a line of cars of hunderds of meters to experience the new to this country drive-thru service. So worse that the restaurant almost had to shut down. At that time located near a US Airbase in Soesterberg.
The second McDonald's with Drive-Thru opened more than a half year later in Duiven (McDonald's Duiven) and from then on most of the McDonald's restaurants in the Netherlands had a McDrive. Today 138 out of 226 restaurants have this facility (61 %).
This type of building with two floors is a Dutch design of that time and only used at 3 locations in the Netherlands (two others are in the Rotterdam area).

Historic Mackinac Suspension Bridge over the Mackinac Straits in Mackinaw City, Michigan. The bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened in 1957. It carries I-75 across the narrow passage of the strait near Mackinaw City. The bridge was completed in 1958 by the American Bridge Division of the U. S. Steel Corporation.
The Mackinac Bridge is currently the third longest suspension bridge in the world and is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. The total bridge is 26,372 feet in length. The suspension bridge itself is 8,614 feet.
In 2006, the bridge was included in the Federal Highway Administration (FWHA) list of Nationally and Exceptionally Significant Features of the Federal Interstate Highway System. Designated in 2010 as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
The bridge won the award of merit from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) as the "Most Beautiful Steel Bridge" in Class I in 1958.

This is the way McDonald's used to built their restaurants around the year 2000. McDonald's opened in the year 2000 and was store number 204 in the Netherlands at that time. In October 2007 the interior was fully renovated and the store was extended (still visible if you see the difference in color on the roof).
For me this is the nearest by McDonald's together with McDonald's Amsterdam Van Swindenstraat.
