An image from a walk a couple of weeks ago: evening sun beams beyond Dundalk Bay, seen from the summit of Slievenaglogh in the Cooley Mountains, Co. Louth.
If you walk beyond the big resorts of Punta Cana (some as vast as city states!), beyond the beach chairs, the volleyball nets, the kids digging holes in the sand, the vendors shouting "Larimar, larimar!", the banana boats, beyond the pina coladas, the banana mamas, the cervezas and the rum, past the aerobics class, the oiled tans and the pounding beach music, you may be in for a surprise. At first it seems like a mirage in the distance, a mere silhouette of shapes that don't resemble anything like the artificial village that you have been staying in for the past few days. This is a village of another sort, a type of ramshackle but far more delightful mall on the beach, a series of shacks whose colours become more vibrant as you approach and whose sounds of "hola, hola" become louder and more insistent as you get closer.

A good drive from the township of Wanaka...passing Lake Wanaka, Glendhu Bay and the turn-off to Treble Cone Skifield, then running parallel to the braided Matukituki River.
The majestic Mt Aspiring (3033m) was ahead of us 'somewhere' in the clouds.
This beautiful view of Monte Carlo was from our veranda of the Oceania good ship Riviera. The 2 day, 2 night docking location was ideal to view the city, country side and, of course, the Annual Super-yacht Show.
Super-yachts for sale here were for a specific clientele - billionaires. These super-yachts sold for 10's and 100's of millions of dollars. Only the richest people in the world need apply, but others came to view the world's largest and most outlandish personal watercraft.
The light on the upper left is that of the Palace of Prince Albert I and later Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace Kelly. (star filter, handheld HDR)
Monte Carlo, Monaco
Another for this week's 100x Beyond the obvious theme.
I was out early in the morning walking across campus. I decided to take a route that would take me by some areas that are landscaped with some autumn flowers.
While looking around I found this great large web covering the tops of some low sedge type flowers. There was a spider in it along with lots of prepared meals and fresh ants.
I slipped one of the lesser magnifying Olloclip Macro lenses on to the phone, as I didn't want to get too close to the spider, and started to snap away.
As I was snapping and moving in and around the the spider I noticed it never moved and realized it was dead.
So, with a braver heart, I snapped on a stronger Macro lens and got in closer.
As I did that, I was startled when I saw a large dark mass below moving about.
Another much larger spider lived further down in that big web.
It blended in so well with the leaf litter below I never noticed it until its dark body shifted.
I have another very different version of this image that I like a lot. I will post it sometime in the future.

This is the South Bay at Scarborough in North Yorkshire UK.
There is a multitude of rock pools to explore with loads of shells, sealife and seaweed to study, yet only a few yards from a busy bustling beach.
