Story behind the photo: So there I was, on a mundane school run, when I spotted this lone tree standing on the ridge of an old abandoned quarry. There was quite something about that tree that caught my eye. Maybe it was the fact that it was standing there all alone, like some kind of rebel without a cause. And let me tell you, it was the most exciting thing to happen to me all week.
I began visualising this tree silhouetted against the evening colors of the sky. I mean, why bother with actually paying attention to my surroundings when I can just imagine everything looking much better in my head? And so, I decided to plan a future photo shoot using the Photopills app.
On the day of the shoot, I had to do a bit of hiking up the quarry’s ridge, traipsing through the wilderness like the true adventurer that I am. (Okay, fine, it was more like a gentle stroll over a knoll in the park. But let's not quibble over details.) Once I got there, I faffed around a bit to get a satisfactory composition. I mean, it's not like I was in any rush or anything. Who needs to get the shot quickly when you can just take your sweet time?
The making of the photo involved getting down low on my belly to get the shot just right. I mean, it's not like I have any shame or anything. Who cares if people are staring at me lying flat on my belly in a public place? It's all about getting the shot.
Now, the sunset wasn't exactly what I would call impressive. But hey, it's not like I had any control over that. I'm just happy that I managed to get a shot that was at least halfway decent. And who knows, maybe one day it'll end up in someone’s home or perhaps a fancy art gallery or something. After all, mediocrity is the new excellence, isn't it?

...day and night. The sun has just set and the moon is rising.
I was going to photograph sunset this afternoon, but there is a severe storm brewing. This is a sunset from earlier in the year. Have a great weekend everyone:)

on the streets of palma, a fleeting moment becomes a frame within a frame. the young woman, vibrant and alive, stands unknowingly with a timeless face watching over her. it’s a dance of eras—youth and nostalgia meeting under the mediterranean sun, captured in black and white. the light carves stories, while shadows hold secrets.
I was surprised with the skies parted on Saturday it was supposed to be cloudy all day long. Our first snow of the year will arrive later today with 1-3 inches. Something worth photographing :) Five exposure HDR processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2

Bridges are a very popular photography subject and rightfully so as they tend to be very impressive structures. Aside from that, on a completely different level, it is also the symbolism behind a bridge that may be so intriguing: something that bridges a gap, something that brings people together. That was the idea behind the name of Boston's iconic bridge. This is Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, named after a local civic leader and civil rights activist who championed in "Building bridges between peoples". The design of the bridge is reflecting the nearby Bunker Hill memorial, which I will show in a future post, and that's the story behind the second part of its name. It is 436 meters long, 86 meters high and it carries Interstate 93 across Charles river. What I found interesting is that it's a double decker, meaning the 5 nortbound lanes are sitting on top of the 5 southbound lanes.
Another take on the bridge can be seen here:

Description:
One of the most famous and best known objects in the sky is this large spiral galaxy, which can be seen with the unaided eye in a dark-sky location late in the northern hemisphere summer and in the autumn.
M31 is about 50% larger than our own Milky Way galaxy, and lies at a distance of about 2.5 million light years. For more information about M31, click here:

Bougainvillea is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees belonging to the four o' clock family, Nyctaginaceae. They are native to Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, and Argentina. There are between 4 and 22 species in the genus. Wikipedia /
Between Deming and Silver City, New Mexico, lies the City of Rocks State Park. It looks like a sea of boulders, but is actually an old lava field that has been worn down and carved out by wind and water. If you like to see different shapes and combinations of rock formations, this is the place to be.

Inside the ice cave below Worthington Glacier in Valdez, Alaska.
I hopped between rocks, ice and glacial water to get into the opening below the foot of the glacier and took a few pictures before leaping over the water from a piece of ice to another and dropped my phone (Huawei Nexus 6P) into the water. Kudos to Huawei and Google it only cracked the glass screen and all other functions were intact.

Still under the weather and it was a quick visit to the beach this afternoon. This is the western side of my designated bit of beach.

This is what you see when you stand between the 30+ foot tall fuel storage tanks (shown in my previous image) to shelter from the howling wind and snow - a quiet and intimate (if slightly wonky as they lean in different directions) world of light, texture, colour and pattern.
In the early 20th century (1908) a permanent on-shore facility was built to process whales from the whaling industry which flourished around the South Shetland Islands. The remains of buildings and the huge storage tanks can still be seen there. Near the whaling facility, there are also buildings belonging to the British Antarctic Survey base which was evacuated in 1967 during an eruption of the volcano. The base was eventually abandoned after another eruption in 1969.
These tanks are located on Deception Island, so named because from the sea it looks like a normal island, but once you cross through the gap called Neptune’s Bellows, you can see that is actually the caldera (crater) of a volcano. The volcano underneath is still active (steam can be seen rising from the water from the heat) and it erupted most recently in 1970.

Apart from the Chiltern 68's locos along this section of line between Smethwick and Snow Hill are a bit of a rarity but to see a tram along here these days is a real rare occurrence too. So 31128 Charybdis rumbles along the heavy rail side with 37703 in tow running as 0Z37 Kidderminster S.V.R. to Barrow Hill whilst tram 40 zips along in the same direction, running empty.
