Polka Dot Begonia's leaves are so beautiful that it worth having one just to appreciate its silver dots... but the flowers are also so gorgeous and blooming for months, it really is a joy in our home.

One of my favorite Begonias from Central Africa

The flower buds of this remarkable Begonia look like tiny sea-urchins or hedgehogs with red spines!

Begonia U489 is probably a hybrid involving B. rex or closely related species.

@ 2013 American Begonia Society show held in Austin Texas in May 2013

A cool flower that I got for free from the grocery store - they were giving away flower bulbs a month after they should have been planted - I scooped them up, and fired them into the dirt. Awesome red flowers came up in late fall, pretty cool. ...........if it is not a begonia, let me know. I have no clue what they are.

Macro shot of a begonia in bloom in my garden that survived the rains of Ernesto.

We planted these begonias not long ago and put them in pots by the front door (where we usually put the begonias). I'll take more photos when they are "grown up". Taken by Edgar.

秋海棠科 Family Begoniaceae

秋海棠屬 Genus Begonia

es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Begonia_formosana

Begonia is a genus in the flowering plant family Begoniaceae and is a perennial. The only other members of the family Begoniaceae are Hillebrandia, a genus with a single species in the Hawaiian Islands, and the genus Symbegonia which more recently was included in Begonia. "Begonia" is the common name as well as the generic name for all members of the genus. The genus name, coined by Charles Plumier, a French patron of botany, honors Michel Bégon, a former governor of the French colony of Haiti. It was adopted by Linnaeus. As a member of the order Curcurbitales, begonias are relatively closely related to such food crops as pumpkins / squash, gourds, cucumbers, and melons.
