At first, baby elephants don't really know what to do with their trunks. They swing them to and fro and sometimes even step on them. They will suck their trunk just as a human baby might suck its thumb.

By about 6 to 8 months, calves begin learning to use their trunks to eat and drink. By the time they are a year old, they can control their trunks pretty well and, like adult elephants, use their trunks for grasping, eating, drinking, bathing.

Literally set among the suggestive rocks of the Lucanian Dolomites , Castelmezzano , in the province of Potenza , is one of the most precious jewels of Basilicata . Its perched houses reminiscent of a crib , the rugged peaks that frame it, the small alleys and stairways that run through it offer enchanting views that truly conquer everyone and give off the perfect atmosphere for a weekend of high romance . The splendid location would be enough to make the resort an ideal destination for an extremely pleasant couple's stay , but in reality Castelmezzano has much more to offer visitors in search of a romantic atmosphere.

The emotion begins to grow already along the way when, after crossing a spectacular gorge , you find yourself walking along a tunnel dug into the rock , at the exit of which the view of the village clinging to the Lucanian Dolomites reaches straight to the heart, giving you immediately the impression of being in the right place with the right person. The shapes of the rocky peaks and their play of lights and shadows explain their evocative names, ranging from "beak of vicetta" to "lion's mouth" up to "anvil" and " golden eagle" , while the historic center with its typically medieval structure, enchants with the beauty of its houses wedged between the rocks and surmounted by roofs in sandstone slabs . Walking along the narrow alleys of the historic center and climbing the small stairways, you reach magnificent panoramic points from which to enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding landscapes , in a continuous interaction between urbanized views and natural sceneries that have earned the town the nickname of the city - nature .

Furthermore, Castelmezzano is included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy and, admiring the artistic and architectural treasures that it holds, immediately explains why. Piazza Caizzo with the splendid mother church of Santa Maria dell'Olmo is only the beginning of a magnificent itinerary dedicated to history and beauty. Walking along the main street of the town , with the Town Hall building to adorn it, you reach the ruins of the castle and, entering the streets of the center, you discover other precious buildings ranging from the elegant Palazzo Ducale to Palazzo Coiro . Going outside the town and exploring the surroundings, you will discover other enchanting surprises. The ancient mills with roofs made of local chiang chimate stone slabs dot the Caperrino valley crossed by picturesque buildings, stairways and bridges , while vestiges of distant eras peep out among the uncontaminated scenery of the Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Park .

Spring finally seems to have arrived with warm sunshine breaking through the clouds.

This little fella was one of a pair pottering around the base of Malham Cove where the River Aire begins it's long journey to the sea.

It was nice also to see the resident peregrines high up on the cove.

Many thanks to everyone who takes the time to view and fave my photos and in particular to those kind enough to comment. It is very much appreciated.

I was hoping for a spectacular sunset but the clouds moved in. It was beautiful and calm though. Good to be out

Not one of the nicest weeks I've had, but still some time for the camera and a walk around the neighborhood, let spring begin

... its destiny.

Its inevitability. The new flower reaches for the light. The "bud" waits. For its turn. Its "destiny" to be born. To open.

Life is simple and delicate. It has a beginning and an end, nothing can change that, nothing is so right. Life is as it should be...Take care of it. And of those you love.

I'd edited this image ages ago but as more often than not I don't get things right first time - and that's okay 😁

I'm trying with 'H' when he gets furstrated that he's not good enough or didn't get things right first time (must get that from his Mom 😲🙈) that it's normal in fact even a good thing because we get as many chances as we need to get it right - there's no pressures or time limits; just as long as he does his best, - if it doesn't work out, just begin again with all that you've learnt from before and it doesn't matter when you get it right when you try your best.....

one thing i love about life: in each moment we can start anew. with any practice, we take an honest, gentle look at ourselves and stay the course or make a change. we start over and over again, and it's all okay.

Blustery weather has brought an abrupt end to our Alaskan summer and is adding a bit of color to our forest floor. In about a week - the leaves should reach their peak making for some awesome photo-ops.

Ok, I know - *another* image of Tipsoo Lake and Mount Rainier. What I should have done (but obviously did not) was put the photos into a series showing the progression of sunrise over this spot. You can see in my previous postings, one pre-sunrise and the other at sunrise. This one was captured during the beginning of sunrise.

It's an interesting thing, and I don't know if it's just here at Mount Rainier National Park, or if it's anywhere there are snowcapped mountains: when the sun begins to rise, what you see first is a sort of white light from the sun that begins to bathe the mountain. Then, after more of the sun is above the horizon, the light becomes a gold-orange-pink brilliance that only lasts a minute before settling into a blinding light that eventually overexposes the mountain snow.

Anyway, as soon as I saw that kiss of light on the mountain top, I knew sunrise was beginning in earnest.

I captured this image in Canyonlands NP on a foggy morning. This place is amazing and around every turn there is another landscape to explore.

Wikipedia: The Studebaker Champion is an automobile which was produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, Indiana, from the beginning of the 1939 model year until 1958. It was a full-size car in its first three generations and a mid-size car in its fourth and fifth generation models, serving as the junior model to the Commander.

St. Louis Car Museum: With the anticipation of the World War II effort to begin, all automotive manufacturers ceased civilian production early into 1942 to focus production on military equipment and supplies. Production of cars and trucks halted on February 10, 1942. Approximately 300 vehicles built up to this period at Studebaker were reserved by the US Government to be utilized only for the Civil Defense Auxiliary and the New York Police Department. To conserve material, the usually chromed components were instead painted. These special vehicles were recorded with Studebaker as Deluxe Champion Model 90 “Black Out” Coupes and Sedans.

The rose hip or rosehip, also called rose haw and rose hep, is the accessory fruit of the various species of rose plant. It is typically red to orange, but ranges from dark purple to black in some species. Rose hips begin to form after pollination of flowers in spring or early summer, and ripen in late summer through autumn.
