I was trying to get close shots of the middle of this flower against the sky when this bee rudely intruded...
Please see similar shot from 4 years ago with my old Nikon D80,

Happy Sunday!
Bee putting necter into a cell, if you look you can see all the necter/honey. Once all the water has evaporated off the necter the bees seal the top of the cells with wax because it is ready and has become honey.
A bright purple swath of Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa) comes into its own in the foothills of the Southern Rockies near Boulder, Colorado. The common name is particularly apt for this plant, as Bumblebees and other wild bees are constantly attending to its pollinating needs. Bee Balm makes similar terpene compounds in its leaves as Thyme plants of the Old World, and chemical analysis of their tissues has revealed that populations of Bee Balm often have distinct terpene signatures. However, it is not at all clear to me just how those terpene signatures influence the relationship between bees and plants.
Technical notes: This is a focus stack of four images, taken hand-held.
Thanks for stopping by to visit!
Just a busy Bee doing its thing during the morning on the grounds of Naval Lives Preserve in Gulf Breeze Florida.
Pink flower (Watsonia) and dangling bee.
It's amazing how they can dangle to get at nector and pollen.
Fabulous in the large size.
Monday again, be happy,
One more post before taking off.
This will be my last post for a while as am about to be off for a trip to Africa. While there, will be working for a week on behalf of Africa Bridge in rural villages of Tanzania. Then will go to Ruaha national park for a few days before returning home. I imagine the shots I get will be quite different from my recent macro photos.
Last year I found this bee, completely exhausted. Picked it up and it basically stayed with me for the next hour. I fed the bee some honey. The bee recovered a bit. The last thing I could do. Amazing creatures. And yes it tickles :-)
We took a walk at Boyce Thompson Arboretum on Labor Day. 10° F cooler than Phoenix, and just a 45 minute drive, it offered a nice early morning break from the heat of summer. And the place was abuzz with bees busy pollinating and doing the stuff bees do.
Bee collecting pollen. There is so much we can and should do for our pollinators, from planting native flowers and shrubs, to eliminating the use of pesticides. Please do what you can and encourage others too.
This bee couldn't wait for the mutabilis rose to open, and gave a nice view of that abdomen - Happy Bug Butt Thursday!
Bumble Bee busy feeding in a Honeysuckle flower. I only noticed the tiny fly after I uploaded this HBBBT!
Sorry for not commenting on many photos tonight but I give up, Flickr seems very slow anyway but my internet connect is rubbish tonight must be the weather or perhaps our B&B guests are watching a movie on their laptop? I did a ping test & I have just 1.38mbps download speed (it's usually about 2). Upload speed 0.13mbps - ridiculously slow.
