Honey bees obtain all of their nutritional requirements from a diverse combination of pollen and nectar. Pollen is the only natural protein source for honey bees. pollen collected by bees and harvested for pollination must be used within a few hours because it loses its potency rapidly, possibly because of the effects of enzymes or other chemicals from the bees.
Worker bee which is 'fanning' at the hive entrance, She is exposing the white 'Nasonov gland' near the tip of the abdomen which exudes 'home' pheromone. The hive has been disturbed by my inspection and they are all 'broadcasting' the signal that 'this is home, everything is OK'.
Note that she has one full pollen basket - but she has dropped the other pollen load somewhere.

I find the bumblebees very difficult. The closest I can see for this is Bombus lucorum- white tailed bumble bee. However the colouring seems very different from in the pictures i can find (maybe they are a bit different in Ireland). There are lots and lots of them with this same coloration on the ragwort so it is definitely a very common species.
