Anyone able to ID?
On Knapweed and had 3 complete white bands on abdomen and small white patch on side of tergite 2. I have other shots if needed :)
Now that the pink bee balm is blooming, all the bees are on hand, including this small black variety. Not sure of ID, but maybe someone can help? Sussex Cty, New Jersey.

A Nomada cuckoo bee, drinking dandelion nectar. That dark blurred line going down from its head is the tongue. Neat little animals. The cuckoo bees don't gather pollen or build nests -- they invade the burrows of miner bees, typically Andrena, lay eggs on their pollen stores, and kill the miner bee's larvae.
2:1 magnification, with the 100mm macro on extension tubes. Lit with my new 430EX II on an off-camera cord, mounted on a straight bracket with a DIY diffuser. Think I need to change the material in the diffuser -- I got much better results with vellum.

I found this dead Bee near the apple tree and it was decaying so I brought it in for some photo sessions. This time I used 4x objective mounted with an Sigma macro lens and it turned out conceptually ok. This stack comprised of 62 images, each with an 0.01mm increment steps

Nope - not even close. A nice short range strike, into the goal, but the lineswoman was absolutely correct, offside. The game ended soon after and our fans seemed quite happy, going home. After a dreadful first 5 minutes we acquitted ourselves well and kept our A team fresh for the next league match in just 3 days.
