I was pleasently surprised to be invited to sit with them, have a coffee (paid by the guy on the right) in the everlasting Greek traditional hospitality.
I now know all about their village, Lofou, and how they have the youngest and most energetic mayor, aged 23, and that the village population has now risen to about 40. The old houses are been restored and the village really looks wonderful.
Over 200 bedspaces available in the village for agrotourism if anyone is interested to unwind.

Between 1898 and 1930 of the land assurance institution of Berlin worker-lung welfare sites established Beelitz-remedial sites form one of the biggest hospital complexes in the Berlin environs. It is a monument-protected ensemble of 60 buildings on a total area of approx. 200 ha. In two areas to the north of the railroad the lung welfare sites, in both areas situated to the south the sanitariums originated to the treatment not of contagious illnesses. The areas were separated in each case after genders: to the west of the country road the women-remedial sites and women's sanitariums, to the east the same the men-remedial sites and hubby sanitariums. Also lay factories in which predominantly women were occupied, to the west and those in which predominantly men were occupied, to the east. The first construction phase occurred in 1898 to 1902 among architects Heino to smiths and Julius Boethke (1864-1907). In the second construction phase 1908 till 1910 the bedspace from 600 to 1200 was raised. The architect was Fritz Schulz who was also responsible in the third construction phase 1926-30.

i liked my room better when i could barely walk over to the closets because her enormous suitcase was sprawled on the floor, when i had less bedspace, when i had twice as many clothes to choose from in the morning and there were crumbles in the bed because we'd gone through a box of biscuits that we didn't even want in the first place.
now we wait for summer.
The Münchner Haus on Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the Munich Section of the German Alpine Club (DAV).
The category 2 hut lies on the west summit of the Zugspitze at a height of 2,959 metres and is thus the highest refuge hut in the German Alps. The Münchner Haus is managed by Hansjörg Barth whose family have run the hut for three generations since 1925.
There are usually shower facilities available at the hut. For 4 € they supply 30 litres of warm or cold water. It is not possible to reserve bedspaces at weekends, and during the week reservations are unnecessary. From 3 pm beds are allocated every hour on the hour. Source: en.wikipedia.org

Still no clue how this thing ever made it up on this platform. Bedsheets galore adorned it, the thing is clearly used as bedspace for local homeless. Another bit of ingenuity I suppose. Or at least smart use of what's available. Nobody wants to sleep on the ground with the bugs.
Caged home is the miniature of Hong Kong poverty. It arose in 1950s due to an influx of refugees from mainland China who provided Hong Kong industries cheap labour. Their arrival created a strong demand for low cost bedspace apartments as the Hong Kong Government had no housing and labour protection policy for these low paid workers. Before 1985, singletons were even not allowed to apply for public rental housing. Many single men arrived in Hong Kong with hardly any possessions. They worked as coolies and rented to a 3 ft. x 6 ft. bedspace. They needed to share with tens of households to use one kitchen and one toilet decade after decade. To make more profit, the apartment operators used iron cages to construct bunk beds (two to three beds stacked on top of each other), and so the name 'caged home' was coined.

The Cairo Luna Park was a trolley park in Heliopolis, Egypt. Open from 1911 to the beginning of 1915, the Cairo Luna Park was the first Western-style amusement park in Africa and the first in the Middle East.On 19 January 1915, buildings and grounds were converted into an auxiliary hospital at Luna Park for World War I; the hospital was closed on 10 July 1916.
The onset of World War I in late 1914 led to the formation of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACS) under General William Birdwood in Egypt. One of its first acts is the establishment of No. 1 Australian General Hospital in the Heliopolis Palace Hotel just outside Luna Park by 19 January 1915. Demand for bedspace increased to the point that the ANZACS expanded the medical facilities, first to Luna Park's ice skating rink by establishing an auxiliary branch of No. 1 AGH; by 28 April 1915, over 500 beds filled the rink, and further accommodations were provided in makeshift-fashion in the haunted house, the round about, the scenic railroad, and the pavilion; the ticket office was modified to contain an operating theatre. By middle of May 1915, the hospital was treating casualties from Gallipoli; at this point, Luna Park contained over 1200 beds, many constructed of bamboo and palm wood, each bed with its own "customer". No. 1 AGH created additional auxiliary branches of its hospital nearby. By August 1915, the number of wounded at Luna Park reached 1400. Ultimately, this auxiliary branch of 1AGH closed on 10 July 1916, when the main hospital moved to France. This auxiliary should not be confused with the real No. 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital which opened at Harefield, England in March 1915.

Built in 1676 of Timber construction the house has recently been completely re-furbished retaining much of its original features and character, and can accommodate up to 10 people.
Step back in time as you enter the Graig Farm House. The large hall way with its oak stairs and beams entices you in . The large lounge with its Inglenook fireplace greets you warmly. With The Grandfather Clock ticking in the corner, build up the fire in the Dining room and open the red wine to breath, Lunch is going to take a long time. With seating for 10 people it makes it ideal for a Party.
The Kitchen is equipped with all the usual appliances including Dishwasher and uniquely an Aga.
There are 4 bedrooms upstairs 2 King sized Doubles, the master bedroom is en-suite with shower over bath, 1 Twin and 1 Bunk Bedroom. It is possible to put extra beds in any of the rooms because of their size. The main family Bathroom has a large corner bath and Large Separate Shower, and there is a large airing Cupboard.
Log Fire’s, Grandfather clocks, inglenook fireplaces, exposed beams, oak floorboards and Olde Worlde charm make this property unique and is indeed a dream come true.
In the Garden is a Deck mounted Hot tub, suitable for up to 7 People, Sip Champagne as you let the hydrotherapy jets massage you back to life after a hard days walking.
The Farmhouse is ideal for Large Groups, who want to book more than 1 Cottage at the Complex , as it acts as a base to bring your Group together. The Dining Room can seat up to 20 People, and we have had a large 15 Piece Jazz Band plus audience in the Sitting room , so that should give you an idea as to how big the Cottage is.

Living at the Nothe Fort in the 1870s, this scene depicts a soldiers corner, where, if they were married they would live with their wife. The curtain was to afford them some privacy.
Note, the bed is telescopic to allow it to be shortened during the daytime, for more room.

Apparently “ATIK was a different kind of nightclub. Taking its cue from the carefree dance halls of the 20's and updating that feeling for the modern climate.” The Club closed around January 2023.

Now Silvermills Estates and Land Ltd are seeking detailed planning permission to demolish the existing buildings and replace them with purpose-built student accommodation –145 student bedspaces, made up of 95 studios and 50 cluster units – with commercial units on the ground floor.”

A pair of Dancing Acraeas I managed to photograph just before they fled off to safety. By nightfall, they would be totally helpless and vulnerable in the pitch black. And so the search for a safe and comfy bedspace begins while their vision is still intact.
