From the event website (www.beastrace.co.uk): BEAST yourself on an epic 10k obstacle race over rough terrain, dirt tracks and forest; take on over 20 mega obstacles on the way; run solo or in a team; win brilliant prizes; do it for charity; eat and drink top-quality local produce; be in ridiculous fancy dress ... Do any of this and more at Scotland's 'beastliest' obstacle race!
Well, work has certainly kept me busy, but there's always down time, I suppose.
This past week, I bought a piece that I've heard quite a bit about, but knew nothing about. Namely, Transformers Prime - First Edition Arcee.
First off, there is the series itself. I don't know what happened.. I think between me hating the movies and getting married, I didn't even know there was this series called "Transformers Prime". I just figured it was some sort of online game or something. The series was supposed to be a fusion of the movies and the original G1 cartoon. It certainly sounds like a good idea, and maybe one day I'll Youtube some episodes.
Then, we have the whole "First Edition" debacle. So, my understanding is to help promote the show, some "collectors grade" figures were released. These figures were to be more complex than their mainline counterparts, and of course, look prettier. Apparently, the distribution was so wacky that in order to complete their sets collectors in the US had to turn to Canadians for help.. which is pretty rare, or at least it was when I was collecting.
Of course of all the characters to buy, I did end up getting Arcee. I've actually had my eye on this First Edition thing for quite a while, as I was able to buy the Beast Hunters version on clearance at Toys R US years and years ago. My understanding is that the Beast Hunters toy is a retool of the original toy, so for comparisons sake it should be fine.
First Edition Arcee is definitely bigger than the normal version. Not that noticeable in vehicle mode, but very obvious in robot mode. The stories about more complicated transformation and paint on the First Edition definitely hold true, particularly in the wheels.
Speaking of vehicles, the motorcycle mode is quite nice. I suspect I saw it, and it reminded me the Arcee from Revenge of the Fallen. As a result, I probably just ignored it and moved on.
The First Edition figure certainly looks more me mechanical than the normal edition, particularly with the nice angular lines of the chest area.
Funny enough, neither figure really has any waist articulation (there is some in a limited capacity on the First Edition figure due to transformation), and while the First Edition figure has rotating upper arms, the regular version actually has rotating wrists. Leg articulation is about the same on both figures.
Finally, of course the weaponry is different on both, with First Edition having twin blades, and the regular version having a gun with a bayonet on it. I don't even know what happened when they went with the Beast Hunters series.. Arcee gained a crossbow, and all of a sudden every character had some sort of animal traits.
Everthing in Amsterdam was beautifully compacy - down to the egg cartons. As a bonus they were all beasts as well.
