Catharsis Alter Live at the TZ

Alright, enough of the gas flame pictures for now. Back to my first love - no, not the pig *G* - I'm talking about HDR! I can't believe this wild boar at the "Lainzer Tiergarten" (a wildlife park in Vienna) was holding still until I took my 3 exposures for this HDR. It was literally posing for me. Luckily the park was closed and there was this fence between me and this beast - otherwise I swear it would have eaten me alive ;-))

So, I'm proudly presenting you my first HDR picture of an animal! As you might recognize I aditionally hit it with some nice orton effect.

Goodwood: Festival of Speed: The FIAT S76, later known as the FIAT 300 HP RECORD and nicknamed "The Beast of Turin", was a car built in 1911 by FIAT specifically to beat the land speed record held at the time by Blitzen Benz. It has a 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 28,353 cm3 (1,730.2 in3) (190mm x 250mm), and provides 290 metric hp (290 CV / 213kW) at 1900 rpm.

Biomechanical creature similar to Earth's herbivorous ungulates. Capable of reaching great speeds. The elongated shape of the head suggests that it houses either heat exchange system or internal organs with unknown functions.

This is my much loved Ferrari Testarossa. Not the real thing, but a prized, die cast and rather rather large 1/8th scale model.

It was made "way back" last century by a company called Pocher, (sadly no longer in business) who made the most amazing and detailed large scale models. This is actually one of the less detailed kits with just over 500 parts. It includes such detail as pop up headlights, fully opening doors, bonnet (hood) and boot (trunk - which is actually at the front of this car, being a rear engined one). The fully working steering wheel is linked to the front wheels and it has full suspension. The engine has amazing detail with real rubber fan belts and the like. It is a treat to view on its own. Inside, the seatbelt material is real, and the gear lever moves through that wonderful chrome slotted H pattern gate. The seats move fore and aft, and even have reclining backrests! It even has a tiny key on a keyring which will unlock and open the doors! Some of the other more detailed vintage models go as far as having working brakes, and have real leather upholstery.

My model is in a bad way and needs some tender loving restoration. Through moving house no less than nine times, it has suffered a little with every pack and unpack. Normally it would have lovely wing mirrors, but both have broken off several times. I still have them but need to do some detailed work to get them back on again.

I will hopefully present it again one day in a better setting and with a little more attention paid to getting the forced perspective right. Here it is in our front garden under the dappled shade of our silver birch tree. In over 30 years of owning this car, this is the first time I have photographed it. I even washed and polished it (with real Meguiar's car polish) just for the occasion! (What a geek!)

The figure of a black griffin holding a banner, forms part of a group which, together with bull, ram and dolphin, are known as the Dacre Beasts. The griffin represents Thomas Lord Dacre's forebears, the Dacres of Gilsland. The banner bears the 19th-century arms (three rose chaplets) of the Greystoke family (The New Greystoke Arms). Chaplets (bearings representing a garland of leaves with four flowers at equal distances) signify great military prowess. The Dacre Beasts are rare survivors of a tradition of heraldic ornament. They represent one of the most powerful families in northern England and are a unique survivors of free standing, large-scale wooden heraldic sculpture from the English Renaissance.
