I was actually expecting 3 months growth to have been much heftier than what i've got, but fuckit, it's hairy and ginger!
One of our weird and wonderful native orchids.
Orchidacae: Calochilus stramenicola or Beard Orchid.
Its one that grows in a most unlikely place of being under Wandoo trees in the leaf litter where no other plant grows. It is wonderful to find as they do not grow in large numbers.

Whew, I am a little tipsy in this photo, after going to a pre-graduation party for the CCS seniors and JEFF SMITH who is in town as the commencement speaker. Luckily I still managed to make it home and finish this page!
I have dreaded inking this page ever since I penciled it. It took three days, but one of those was Thanksgiving (I took the night off).
This is page 200 of Basewood! It's the longest comic I've ever made. Sometimes it seems crazy that it's taken me this many years to get to 200 pages, but then if you think about it, the pages are 18" x 24" with lots and LOTS of detail. If I drew with the same level of detail on 11" x 17" bristol, it would be 400 pages, and if I drew this way at 8.5" x 11" it would be 800 pages!
Only four pages left to ink! The next page is kind of the end, and then the last three are a mini-epilogue.
Also, Claire has started working on the Basewood Beard video that we are going to show at the book release before she cuts my hair. It's going to be so cool!

Sarah Cassidy and Anne-Marie Mullan wear the beards and deliver the humour. That is more than enough, but also through the Edinburgh Fringe they were providing free biscuits and beards. Comedians with facial hair enough for everyone and biscuits to boot is a statement revealing genius. All of this started when Sarah Cassidy was told that her target comedy audience seemed to be bearded. Bedecking an audience in ‘face fur’ is not just funny but it could provide positive results all round. As the fates of facial hair would have it Billy Watson was on hand to provide his own beard as direct comparison to the comedy stunt beards sported by Cassidy and Mullan in the Grassmarket.

It was hard to get Basewood work done this week with the CCS Summer Workshops going on, but I finally managed to finish off the pencils for page 47. Only ONE more page to pencil and then it's ink ink inking time!
This one was pretty easy (not a lot of backgrounds). Only six pages left to pencil!
Also, someone suggested I start putting secret messages in the background of these photos, so see if you can figure this one out (hint: it's SUPER EASY)
